Job Description Job Title: Criminal Legal Specialist Job Summary: CASES is seeking a Criminal Justice Specialist (LMHC, MHC-LP, LMSW, LCSW) to join its Forensic Assertive Community Treatment (FACT) team, serving individuals with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders in New York City. The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary team; including a Team Leader, clinicians, and specialists; providing mobile, evidence-based treatment and support to help participants achieve recovery and stability in the community. The Criminal Justice Specialist (LMHC, MHC-LP, LMSW, LCSW) acts as a bridge between the criminal legal system and the FACT program, engaging clients, coordinating care during incarceration, and liaising with defense attorneys and courts. This role ensures participants receive comprehensive clinical and advocacy services while maintaining communication between the court, clients, and the FACT team. We believe that in-person operations are the best way to serve our clients, both directly and through essential operational support. This job requires work in our offices, court houses and the community. Shift Hours: This position is full-time Monday – Friday from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Salary: The salary for this role is $65,000 per year Location Address: 2090 Adam Clayton Powell Jr Blvd, 4th Floor, New York, NY 10027. Our office is easily accessible by public transportation. Workplace Flexibility: Flexible - The staff comes in the office 4 days to hold a morning meeting and then go into the community to meet with the clients. One day out the week the meeting will be held via zoom and then the team will go into the community. This role consists of field work and being at the courthouse for client support. What You Will Be Doing: • Provide at least 80 percent of treatment contacts in the community and complete expected minimum monthly treatment contacts, including leading groups when clinically indicated., • Attend and participate in daily team meetings to discuss clients’ clinical and case management issues and needs., • Complete documentations required by the NYS Office of Mental Health (OMH) and NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s (DOHMH) licensing guidelines, NYS Medicaid billing guidelines as well as per CASES ACT Policy and Procedures., • Liaise with other stakeholders who are involved in clients’ justice involvement (e.g. Correctional Health Services, defense attorney, judge, court diversion programs, etc) to advocate for client care and services., • Collaborate with client’s support network and other service providers on treatment planning, service coordination, and case management support with the goal of promoting client’s recovery and stability in the community., • Provide clinical services that are anti-racist, gender-responsive, culturally humble, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, client-centered, and evidence-based., • Complete required documentations and toxicology tests for clients with active Assisted Outpatient Treatment (AOT) order., • Provide 24-hour crisis intervention on-call services on rotating basis., • Provide culturally competent services in accordance with CASES policies and practice., • Required to be in court, office or field 5 days per week., • Perform other related duties assigned by Team Leader. What We Are Looking For: • LMHC, MHC-LP, LMSW, LCSW, with current New York State license, • Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness, and/or co-occurring substance use disorders, • Experience with various evidence-based models pertaining to treatment of substance use, and mental illness, • A team player, highly organized and self-motivated, • Proficient in computers, • Interest in, and sensitivity to, issues facing individuals involved in the criminal legal system.
