These roles span multiple experience levels and will support the design, development, test, and integration of advanced power electronics solutions—including resonant inductive wireless charging systems—for mission-critical applications across automotive, industrial, defense, and consumer markets. This is a rare opportunity to join a dynamic engineering organization working at the intersection of power density, efficiency, wireless energy delivery, and next-generation platform development. Engineers in these roles will contribute to both conventional switched-mode power supply design and cutting-edge long-range, high-power wireless charging systems capable of delivering milliwatts to kilowatts of power without physical contact—enabling complete operational autonomy across extreme environments. VSG will work closely with each candidate to match skill set, career goals, and compensation expectations to the right-fit opening. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Design, simulate, and develop DC/DC converters including buck, boost, buck-boost, flyback, LLC resonant, and full-bridge topologies, • Develop and optimize switching power supplies operating in the KHz to MHz frequency range, • Perform power loss analysis, thermal modeling, and efficiency optimization across full operating range, • Select and evaluate magnetic components (inductors, transformers, coupled inductors) for high-frequency operation, • Lead PCB layout reviews for EMI/EMC compliance, signal integrity, and thermal management, • Conduct bench-level hardware bring-up, debug, and characterization of prototype power stages, • Develop control loop designs (voltage mode, current mode, digital control) and compensation networks, • Support gate driver design, dead-time optimization, and switching waveform analysis, • Prepare design documentation, technical specifications, and peer review materials, • Support qualification testing, FMEA, and design verification/validation activities, • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to design review culture (Senior/Staff/Principal levels), • Design and optimize resonant inductive wireless power transfer (WPT) systems, including transmitter and receiver coil topology selection, compensation network design (series-series, series-parallel, LCC, LCCL), and resonant frequency tuning for milliwatt- to kilowatt-class applications, • Develop RF amplifier and inverter circuits (Class D, Class E, Class EF) to drive WPT transmitter coils at operating frequencies ranging from 100 kHz to 13.56 MHz and above, • Model and simulate electromagnetic coupling coefficients, mutual inductance, and quality factor (Q) for air-core and ferrite-core coil designs using ANSYS Maxwell, COMSOL Multiphysics, or equivalent FEA tools, • Design and validate electromagnetic shielding and magnetic flux management strategies to minimize EMI and meet FCC, CE, and applicable regulatory standards for radiating wireless power devices, • Develop adaptive impedance matching and frequency-agile control algorithms to maintain high end-to-end power transfer efficiency across variable airgap distances and load conditions, • Characterize WPT system performance metrics including end-to-end efficiency, power delivery at distance, misalignment tolerance, and thermal behavior of transmitter and receiver electronics, • Support integration of foreign object detection (FOD) and living object protection (LOP) safety circuits into WPT system architectures for automotive, industrial, and defense deployments REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or related field, • 3+ years of hands-on experience in DC/DC power converter design (level-dependent), • Strong proficiency in switching converter topologies and control theory, • Experience with GaN or SiC wide-bandgap switching devices, • Experience with GaN-based high-frequency power amplifier design for resonant WPT transmitters operating at ISM band frequencies (6.78 MHz, 13.56 MHz), • Experience with simulation tools: SPICE (LTspice, PSIM, SIMetrix), MATLAB/Simulink, • Hands-on lab skills: oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer, power supply, electronic load, impedance analyzer, • Experience with component-level magnetics design or vendor interface for transformer/inductor optimization, • Familiarity with EMI filter design and pre-compliance testing methodologies, • Working knowledge of PCB schematic capture and layout (Altium, OrCAD, or equivalent), • Strong analytical skills with ability to drive root cause analysis and failure resolution, • Excellent communication skills and ability to contribute in a collaborative team environment, • Foundational understanding of resonant circuit theory, including quality factor (Q), coupling coefficient (k), and resonant frequency behavior in loosely coupled transformer systems, • Experience with RF/analog circuit design including impedance matching networks, Class D/E amplifier topologies, and AC-to-DC rectifier stages relevant to wireless power receiver architectures, • Familiarity with wireless power transfer standards and regulatory frameworks including Wireless Power Consortium (Qi), AirFuel Alliance, SAE J2954 (EV wireless charging), and FCC Part 15/18 for unlicensed ISM band operation PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS • Digital power control experience (UCD, dsPIC, STM32, custom ASIC/FPGA-based), • Familiarity with battery management systems (BMS) or EV traction/auxiliary power modules, • Experience with LLC or CLLC resonant converters for EV on-board charging (OBC) applications, • Hands-on experience designing and testing wireless power transfer (WPT) systems, including coil winding, litz wire selection, ferrite shielding, and system-level efficiency measurements using network analyzers and impedance measurement equipment, • Background in mid-range resonant inductive power transfer achieving high efficiency (90%+) at extended airgap distances, including frequency-splitting behavior analysis and bifurcation avoidance techniques, • Familiarity with scalable WPT platform design across wide power ranges (mW to kW), including multi-receiver architectures and spatial freedom charging for autonomous vehicles, robotics, industrial IoT, and wearable/defense applications, • Knowledge of human exposure safety standards for wireless power devices (ICNIRP guidelines, IEEE C95.1, SAR limits) and experience designing systems to meet applicable exposure limits, • Prior work in contactless power delivery for extreme environments (MIL-SPEC, IP67+, vibration/shock-rated enclosures) including defense wearables, autonomous ground/aerial vehicles, or industrial automation
