Job DescriptionDescription: Children’s Music Instructor Substitute (for Music Explorers and Musical Tots Classes) Pay Rate: $40/hour for Music Explorers Classes and $30/hour for Musical Tots Classes Schedule: Part-Time- varied hours during the week between 9am-5:30pm plus weekend mornings. **Note that at this time we are only looking for substitute instructors with potential to pick up more consistent part-time work as the semester goes on. Locations: Various across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens. NY Preschool and Kids Club is New York City’s premier early childhood preschool and enrichment center, offering movement-based, intellectual, and social experiences for children from 8 weeks to 12 years old. Through innovative classes, creative camps, one-of-a-kind birthday celebrations and events, our approach inspires each child’s inherent love of learning! We’re seeking talented, passionate, and playful music Instructors to lead Music Explorers classes for preschoolers ages 3–5 as well as Musical Tots classes for ages 0-3. The Music Explorers Class delivers high-quality music education programming specifically designed for children ages 3-5. This class focuses on engaging young learners in fundamental music concepts through interactive, play-based instruction using voices, bodies, and simple percussion instruments. The instructor creates a nurturing environment that supports both musical development and social-emotional growth while maintaining NYPKC's commitment to excellence and family satisfaction. Our Musical Tots program offers a blend of concert-style performances and interactive activities. Children actively engage in singing, dancing, and playing instruments, promoting emergent language skills, fine motor skills, and music appreciation. Each session is led by a talented guitarist and vocalist, creating a fun and inclusive environment for both children and parents. Here’s what a Children’s Music Instructor's day looks like: • Teach core music concepts (rhythm, melody, musical form, patterns, tone recognition) to children ages 0–5 using songs, physical movement, percussion, and vocal play., • Perform a range of musical styles (ranging from rock, pop, jazz, and blues) and encourage a strong community of parents and caregivers in Musical Tots Classes, • Create a safe, supportive classroom environment in Musical Explorers and manage groups of 6–12 preschoolers during a 45 minute class using positive behavior strategies., • Maintain consistent routines and adapt activities for different learning styles, attention spans, and developmental needs., • Deliver Music Explorers and Musical Tots curriculum following established lesson plans and learning objectives, • Use hands-on, exploratory teaching methods that engage multiple senses and maintain high energy, • Collaborate with Program Coordinators and Team Leads on program quality and student development., • Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Early Childhood Education, or related field preferred, • Musical Tots Vocalists should be strong singers in multiple genres, • Musical Tots Guitarists should be skilled in playing guitar and have the ability to play and sing at the same time, • 2–3 years teaching music theory and foundational concepts to young children (ages 2–8) required, • Experience planning and delivering structured, developmentally appropriate lessons, • Proficiency in basic music theory, movement, vocal instruction, and simple percussion required, • Strong understanding of preschool development, behavior management, and classroom engagement, • Ability to simplify complex musical concepts for young learners and build positive relationships, • Specialized early childhood music training (Orff, Kodály, Dalcroze, Music Together, Kindermusik) preferred, • Creativity, patience, and excellent communication skillS, • Ability to travel across NYC (Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan), • Commitment to at least one consistent full semester required (17 weeks) required What’s in it for you: • Dental and Vision Benefits, • Paid Time Off, • 401(k) Savings and Retirement Plan, • Commuter Program, • Discounted Fitness membership Physical Demands: The role involves standing, walking, sitting, constant movement, and occasional climbing.
