Summary Objective The Materials Handler – Hazardous Waste is responsible for the safe and compliant management of hazardous waste generated at the facility. This position performs hands-on hazardous waste handling activities, prepares waste for transport, supports regulatory compliance under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and responds to hazardous material spills or emergencies. The role requires use of powered industrial equipment, including forklifts, and close coordination with environmental, safety, and logistics personnel. Essential Functions Hazardous Waste Management • Handle, label, move, consolidate, and store hazardous waste in accordance with RCRA, facility procedures, and applicable state regulations., • Ensure hazardous waste containers are:, • Properly labeled and marked, • Kept closed except when adding or removing waste, • Compatible with contents and free from leaks or deterioration, • Prepare hazardous waste for off-site transport, including:, • Container inspection and verification, • Proper packaging, labeling, and placarding (as applicable), • Staging waste for pickup in designated areas, • Operate a forklift or other powered industrial equipment to safely move hazardous waste containers, pallets, and overpacks., • Sign hazardous waste manifests and shipping documents, as authorized., • Manage shipping paperwork, including:, • Manifests, • Land Disposal Restriction (LDR) notifications, • Waste profiles and supporting documentation, • Respond to hazardous material spills, releases, and emergencies in accordance with the facility RCRA Contingency Plan and Emergency Response procedures., • Use spill response equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) as required., • Oversee day-to-day hazardous waste compliance activities under the direction of the Environmental Manager., • Conduct routine inspections of hazardous waste areas and containers., • Identify and report potential compliance issues, container deficiencies, or unsafe conditions., • Complete RCRA hazardous waste training in accordance with 40 CFR 262.17(a)(7) (for LQG facilities) or applicable generator requirements., • Maintain forklift operator certification., • Complete emergency response and spill response training., • Participate in refresher training as required. Work Location This position will be worked out of our Normandy Manufacturing Facility in Jacksonville, FL. This position is not approved for telecommuting or working remotely. Or where the employee will physically work. Work Environment All work for this position will be performed on the manufacturing floor. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand. The employee must frequently lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position. Workdays and hours may vary and may include Monday through Saturday between 6:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Travel Some occasional travel may be necessary. Occasional travel to Stellar Energy facilities and training may be required. Required Education and Experience. • High school diploma or equivalent., • Experience handling hazardous materials or industrial waste., • Forklift operation experience (certification required or ability to obtain)., • Ability to read and understand safety data sheets (SDS), labels, and regulatory documents., • Strong attention to detail and compliance. Preferred Education and Experience • Previous experience in hazardous waste management at an industrial or manufacturing facility., • Familiarity with RCRA regulations and hazardous waste shipping requirements., • Experience signing hazardous waste manifests. Additional Eligibility Qualifications Annual recertification is required Work Authorization Must be authorized to work in the USA.
