Job Description Senior Substation Technician (Traveling – Florida Projects) Location: Florida (Statewide Travel Required) Schedule: 4x10s (----Overtime Available----) Pay: $30–$45/hour (based on experience) + Benefits Note: As of the publication of this job ad, the vast majority of our work is located in North Florida (spanning from Jacksonville to Pensacola). Preference will be given to individuals who live in either North Florida or South Georgia. About Us We are a full-service EPC contractor specializing in substation and switchyard construction projects across the state of Florida. Our work includes both greenfield builds and brownfield upgrades, delivering high-quality infrastructure ranging from small subs all the way up to 500kV systems. Our crews travel from project to project, building critical power infrastructure from the ground up—once one substation is complete, we move on to the next. Position Overview We are seeking a Senior Substation Technician with strong experience in above-grade substation construction. This role is ideal for someone who not only has deep technical knowledge, but also enjoys mentoring junior technicians and contributing to team leadership in the field. You’ll play a key role in installing, assembling, and commissioning high-voltage equipment while ensuring safety, quality, and productivity on job sites. Note: This role is subject to a maximum home-base-to-project distance due to safety and travel considerations. Candidates must be within a reasonable commuting/rotation distance of our Florida project sites. Additionally, we do not offer relocation assistance, so the individual would have to be willing to relocate to our territory before starting with us. Key Responsibilities • Install and erect substation steel structures and above-grade components, • Set and install high-voltage equipment, including:, • Circuit breakers (including SF6 breakers and gassing procedures), • Power transformers, • Disconnect switches, • Surge arresters, • Insulators and bus systems, • Perform switchgear installation across various manufacturers and configurations, • Assist with protection & control equipment installation and wiring, • Support and execute commissioning, testing, and energization activities, • Perform retrofits, upgrades, and equipment changeouts on existing substations, • Read and interpret prints, one-lines, schematics, and construction drawings, • Ensure adherence to safety standards and job site protocols, • Mentor and train junior technicians, • (Preferred) Assist with crew leadership and field coordination Qualifications • 5+ years of experience in substation construction (above-grade work), • Strong working knowledge of high-voltage equipment installation, • Experience with SF6 breakers (including handling and gas procedures), • Familiarity with substation drawings, schematics, and layouts, • Experience with switchgear installation and testing, • Willingness to travel throughout Florida for project assignments, • Ability to work 4x10 schedule with overtime as needed, • Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship Preferred: • Prior experience leading crews or acting as a lead technician, • Experience in commissioning and testing activities, • OSHA certifications or other relevant safety training What We Offer • Competitive pay: $30–$45/hour, • Consistent overtime opportunities, • Comprehensive benefits package (health, dental, vision, etc.), • Travel-based project work with steady pipeline, • Opportunity to grow into leadership roles, • Work on large-scale, high-voltage infrastructure projects Why Join Us?
