Description Electricians are responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems in accordance with current electrical codes, approved plans, and customer specifications. Journeymen are expected to perform work safely, efficiently, and correctly the first time, while keeping customer equipment operating reliably. Journeymen represent the company in the field and are expected to promote a positive company image through quality workmanship, professionalism, communication, and a strong sense of urgency. Primary Duties and Responsibilities • Demonstrate a strong commitment to safety for yourself and those around you by following all company, customer, OSHA, NEC, and NFPA 70E requirements., • Own the safety, quality, and productivity of assigned work areas and tasks., • Lay out and install conduit systems, lighting systems, basic control systems, and feeders in accordance with NEC, approved drawings, and customer specifications., • Measure, cut, bend, and install conduit and wire using appropriate tools and methods., • Troubleshoot electrical circuits and systems, identify root causes of failures, and repair or replace damaged components on industrial and commercial equipment., • Install, terminate, and test fixtures, devices, motors, controls, and electrical equipment for industrial and commercial applications., • Perform preventative maintenance on electrical equipment, controls, and instrumentation as assigned., • Identify material needs in advance and coordinate material requests through approved company processes to prevent delays, waste, or cost overruns., • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area, tools, materials, and equipment at all times., • Proactively prepare for upcoming work by reviewing drawings, scope, materials, and site conditions., • Actively mentor and train apprentices by explaining tasks, verifying understanding, inspecting completed work, and reinforcing safety and quality standards., • Work collaboratively with foremen, project managers, apprentices, customers, and other trades to support project success., • Communicate professionally with customers and supervisors regarding work progress, issues, and completion status., • Review completed work with the customer or supervisor to confirm scope completion and satisfaction., • Independently execute assigned tasks and make installation decisions within approved plans and specifications. Escalate scope changes, design conflicts, safety concerns, or deviations from plans to the Foreman or Project Manager immediately., • Follow all company and customer safety policies and utilize required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)., • Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements / Minimum Qualifications • Must possess a valid California Journeyman Electrician Certification and meet all licensing and certification requirements applicable to assigned work., • 3–5+ years of relevant electrical experience preferred, particularly in industrial and commercial environments., • Experience working in industrial and manufacturing environments including maintenance, troubleshooting, shutdown/outage work, and plant facilities preferred. Controls and instrumentation experience is a plus., • Proven ability to read, interpret, and work from electrical drawings, blueprints, and schematics., • Must be highly proficient in conduit layout and installation including EMT, GRC, PVC-coated (Ocal), and stainless steel systems from ½" through 2". Candidates must be capable of planning runs, producing clean professional installations, and working independently from drawings with minimal supervision., • Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and California Electrical Code., • Thorough understanding of NFPA 70E electrical safety practices., • Experience working with high-voltage electrical systems., • Man lift experience preferred, with demonstrated safety awareness., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship., • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills., • Strong leadership skills with a minimum of 2 years’ experience training and mentoring apprentices., • Must be self-motivated, take initiative, and proactively solve problems without requiring constant supervision., • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, supervisors, customers, and other contractors., • Professional attitude with a commitment to completing work safely, efficiently, and correctly., • Reliable attendance, consistency, and professionalism are critical for this role., • Valid state driver’s license with a good driving record., • Ability to work overtime and weekends as required by project needs., • Some projects may require shutdown/outage work, early start times, overtime, or travel within Central California., • Basic computer proficiency, including MS Outlook and Excel. Physical Requirements • Ability to stand and work for extended periods., • Ability to talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects and tools., • Ability to bend, push, pull, climb, crouch, kneel, and work in elevated or confined spaces., • Must be comfortable working at heights from ladders, scaffolds, lifts, platforms, and elevated structures in industrial and commercial environments., • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds., • Visual ability including close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception., • Physically capable of performing hard manual labor while maintaining a consistent and productive pace. Work Environment This position requires regular exposure to outdoor and industrial environments. Employees may be exposed to extreme heat or cold, moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and confined spaces. Noise levels range from moderate to loud depending on the jobsite. Performance Expectations Performance in this role will be evaluated based on safety compliance, quality of workmanship, productivity, teamwork, communication, and adherence to company procedures and project requirements. Role Clarification This position is a field journeyman role and does not include foreman or project management responsibilities unless assigned in writing. Compensation Competitive pay for qualified industrial/commercial journeymen based on experience, leadership, and skill level.
