Job Description Job Title: Food Services Worker Job Description This role provides essential meal service to hospital patients by coordinating menu selections, assembling and delivering meal trays, and supporting overall dietary operations. You will spend part of your shift calling patient rooms to take meal orders and the rest assisting with tray assembly, delivery, and general food service tasks. This position directly supports patient health, comfort, and satisfaction by ensuring meals are accurate, timely, and delivered with care. Responsibilities • Provide meal service to patients by managing menu selections, tray assembly, tray delivery, and tray retrieval in accordance with hospital and departmental guidelines., • Call patient rooms to take meal orders, accurately record selections, and confirm diet requirements and special requests., • Assemble meal trays and menus according to diet orders, menu specifications, portion guidelines, and established protocols., • Deliver patient meals to assigned areas, ensuring trays reach the correct patients promptly and courteously., • Document meals served and record calorie intake as required, supporting accurate intake and nutrition tracking., • Round on patients in alignment with department expectations to confirm satisfaction and ensure dietary needs are met., • Communicate patient diets, meal delivery timing, and special requests clearly with the patient care team., • Set up service areas with food, utensils, garnishes, and supplies to ensure smooth and efficient meal service., • Perform food portioning, serving, and basic food preparation tasks while following food safety and sanitation standards., • Assist with tray line operations, including tray building, checking for accuracy, and organizing trays for delivery., • Respond to and assist with customer and patient requests in a friendly, professional, and customer service–oriented manner., • Ensure work areas are set up, stocked, and organized before, during, and after the shift., • Clean and sanitize workstations, service areas, and utensils regularly in accordance with sanitation guidelines., • Use kitchen equipment and materials properly and safely, reporting any issues or concerns as needed., • Work collaboratively with the dietary and patient care teams, supporting colleagues and helping with additional tasks as required. Essential Skills • Demonstrated ability to provide customer service in a professional, friendly, and patient-focused manner., • Experience or comfort in a foodservice, hospitality, or food preparation environment., • Ability to assemble meals accurately according to menu, diet orders, and protocol., • Strong attention to detail in following food safety, sanitation, and portion guidelines., • Capability to set up service areas with food, utensils, and garnishes in an organized and efficient way., • Skill in basic food preparation, food portioning, and tray line operations., • Ability to document meals and calorie intake accurately and consistently., • Effective communication skills for interacting with patients and collaborating with the patient care team., • Customer service orientation with a positive, helpful attitude in a patient-facing role., • Ability to work well with a team and demonstrate compassion in a healthcare environment., • Reliability in following protocols for cleaning, sanitizing, and safe equipment use., • Comfort working in a fast-paced, customer-facing hospital food service setting. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Previous experience in food service, hospital dietary services, or hospitality is beneficial., • Experience in tray building, tray delivery, and tray retrieval is an advantage., • Experience in customer-facing roles with strong customer service skills., • Familiarity with food production processes and basic kitchen operations., • Ability to manage multiple tasks, such as order taking, tray assembly, and delivery, within defined timeframes., • Comfort speaking with patients by phone to obtain meal orders and clarify preferences., • Strong organizational skills to maintain stocked and orderly workstations and service areas. Work Environment This role is based in a hospital setting that is climate controlled, clean, and highly focused on patient care. The schedule consists of full-time shifts from 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., following a pattern of three days on and three days off, with some weekend work. You will spend part of your shift in an office environment calling patient rooms to take orders, and the remainder in kitchen and service areas assembling trays, setting up service lines, and delivering meals on patient units. The environment is patient facing and customer oriented, with frequent interaction with patients, clinical staff, and dietary team members. Uniforms are provided for contractors, and non-slip shoes are required to support safety in foodservice areas. Breakfast and lunch are provided at no cost to contractors, and the hospital maintains clear standards for cleanliness, sanitation, and safe equipment use Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of St. Louis, MO 63117. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $18.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
