Job DescriptionSalary: $25-$27 per hour Orthotic and Prosthetic Technician Job Summary: The Senior Orthotic and Prosthetic Technician fabricates orthotic and/or prosthetic devices, including highly complex devices, with little to no guidance. This job requires quick and efficient work to handle days with multiple devices due. The Senior Orthotic and Prosthetic Technician will also be responsible for repairs and adjustments, time management with their jobs, inventory control in their work area, and operating under the company's Six Sigma 6S policy (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Safety). From time to time this person will assist practitioners with questions pertaining to their patients. Key Responsibilities: Note: Requirements may vary based on competency and whether the responsibilities are more focused in a particular department within the lab • Read and analyze work orders/fabrications form for the associated job, • Follows specifications on work orders, • Critically assess work orders for missing or conflicting information, • Fabricate devices following WCBLs Quality Assurance, • Understand the fabrication process to be able to QC the steps prior to where you are in the fabrication process to ensure any deficiencies are addressed prior to final Check Out, • Complete associated fabrication stages by predetermined due dates, • Understanding and keeping up on technical knowledge and fabrication techniques and associated industry terminology, • Preparing molds for fabrication, • Thermoforming various plastics using drape forming and/or bubble/blister forming, • Metal work, including bending, possible welding, and finishing, as needed, • Occasional leatherwork including prep, molding, and sewing, • Riveting with various rivets and finishes, • Laminations with different materials, resins, and fabrics, • Efficiency in making repairs and adjustments to devices, • Follows product manufacturers guidelines, • Ensures cosmetics of orthosis/prosthesis, alignment of joints and/or components meet the internal standards as well as industry and safety standards, • Communicates effectively with customers regarding their order (as indicated, or communicate effectively with the supervisor), • Maintains accurate documentation within WCBLs fabrication tracker, • Provides guidance to other technicians as needed, • Adheres to department specific, OSHA, and MSDS safety requirements, • Works well within Six Sigma 6S environment Sort, Set in Order, Standardize, Sustain, and Safety, • Utilizes appropriate (PPE) Personal Protective Equipment during fabrication, • Utilizes proper equipment and departmental safety precautions and equipment, • Maintains and cleans equipment, • Maintains clean, safe, clutter free and orderly environment, • Works within the SOP of each device, • Provides suggestions for changes to SOP based on improved techniques, materials, and/or designs, • Has a basic understanding of anatomy related terminology, • Experience with Cad/Cam preferred, • Any other assigned tasks as requested from Lab Manager, Director of C Fab, COO, or CEO Required Skills: • Able to shape plastic or metal by bending, welding, or cutting, • Ability to use rubber, felt, plastic, leather, wood, fabric, etc. to create necessary devices per specifications, • Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and machinery such as but not limited to: hammers, screwdrivers, anvils, welding equipment, drills, saws, sewing machines, routers, oscillating saws, pipe cutters, torque wrenches, sand blasters, belt sanders, vacuum pumps, sonic welder, etc, • Independent in laminations, • Independent in basic and complex upper extremity prosthetic systems, • Independent in basic and complex lower extremity prosthetic and/or orthotic systems, • Experience with adjustable socket systems, • Experience with myoelectrics and/or microprocessors, • Experience with hip and shoulder disarticulations, • Ability to read diagrams and specifications, • Some knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures, • Good attention to detail, • Great Communicator verbally and in writing, • Works well in a fast-paced environment, • Can work both independently and as part of a team Education and Experience: • Trade Certificate from an accredited program in O&P - preferred, • High School Diploma or GED equivalent - required Equipment Operated: • Basic office equipment such as computers, printers, phones, tablets, • Hand and power tools, • Basic machinery, • Dollies and push carts, • Alignment jigs Work Environment: • Position is in a busy lab/workshop moderate to loud noise, • Occasional exposure to flashing lights via laser scanners and/or welding equipment which may be seizure inducing. ADA accommodation can be requested in regard to this with medical documentation., • The position may be occasionally exposed to fumes, gases, odors, dust, and some biological materials. PPE will be required. WCBL will provide training, surveillance, and PPEW at no cost to the employee Physical Requirements: • Able to work with chemicals, • Able to work safely with equipment, • Ability to work with and understand infection control, • Able to stand/move 90% of the day, • Work with loud machines, • Able to use equipment as noted above, • Able to walk and move with uneven or slick surfaces, • Able to bend down, squat, and/or reach over your head, • Able to push, pull, lift, or carry up to 50 pounds, • Able to step up on a stool or ladder, • Able to work with heat (variety of heat sources and open flames), • Handling of hot materials up to 450 degrees with appropriate PPE, • Standing, moving, walking, bending, twisting much of the time.
