Responsible for setting up and operating conventional and special purpose machines including 3D printers and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts in order to contribute effectively to a production team. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Machinist Job Duties • Reaches out to technical support for answers when needed, • Works closely with other departments toward research and development of projects, • Operates machine shop equipment when needed, • Substitutes in machine shop equipment and in die refurbishing area when other machinists are not available, • Measures, marks, scribes dimensions, and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining utilizing micrometer, gauges, scales, calipers, scriber, compass, and protractor, • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as horizontal and vertical boring mills, lathes, drill press, grinders, and shapers, • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media, • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, adjusts machine controls or control media as required, • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications, • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data, • Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly, verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly, • Repairs defective parts and re-installs and/or installs machined replacement parts in mechanisms, machines and equipment, and tests operation of unit to ensure functionality and performance, • Operates welding equipment to cut or weld parts, • Develops specifications from general description and draws sketch of part or product to be fabricated, • Confers with supervisor, engineer, production personnel, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems, • Prepares and calibrates 3D printers for production, ensuring all equipment is set up according to project specifications, • Verifies that machines are level, material feeds are loaded, and parameters like temperature and build settings are correctly configured, • Analyzes CAD designs, blueprints, and engineering specifications to understand product requirements and determine the best print settings, • Makes adjustments to digital models or slicing software to ensure accuracy and proper scaling in the final print, • Chooses appropriate materials based on job specifications, considering factors like strength, durability, and environmental requirements, • Loads and tests materials (e.g., PLA, ABS, metal powders) and troubleshoots material-related issues during the print process, • Monitors print jobs throughout the production process, adjusting settings as needed to maintain quality, • Inspects completed parts for defects, dimensional accuracy, and structural integrity, using tools like calipers, micrometers, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM), • Performs routine maintenance on 3D printers, including cleaning print heads, replacing parts, and updating software as needed, • Troubleshoots common printing issues, such as layer shifts, warping, and filament jams, to minimize downtime, • Records data related to each print job, including material use, print time, and settings for future reference and process optimization, • Documents quality issues and corrective actions taken, reporting any recurring issues to engineering or maintenance teams, • Works with engineering and production teams to refine printing processes and recommends ways to improve product quality and efficiency, • Stays updated on new 3D printing technologies, materials, and best practices, • Follow all safety guidelines when working with 3D printers and handling materials, particularly when working with powders or high-temperature plastics, • Ensures compliance with company and regulatory standards regarding machine operation and material disposal, • Coordinates with machinists, designers, and engineers to align 3D printed parts with overall production schedules and machining needs, • Has strong work ethic with an understanding of and adherence to SCT’s core values in all business decisions and interactions, • Sets good example, acting in accordance with company culture and values, prioritizes effectively, uses good communication, and delivers results efficiently, • Projects positive company image by interacting with fellow Team Members, customers and management in a cooperative, supportive and courteous manner; displays professional attitude; complies with company dress code, • Effectively and accurately cascades and communicates company information to all stakeholders ensuring important information is provided and understood, • Follows all company policies and procedures, • Welcomes updates and improvements to processes and follows new procedures and innovations, which would add to the efficiency and safety of the operation, • Performs work in a manner that keeps downtime to a minimum, • Maintains clean work environment in accordance with Food Safety and 5S systems, • Follows all safety related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines to include the wearing of appropriate PPE for task and area, • Uses situational awareness and identify unsafe behaviors and conditions, • May be asked to help with duties in other areas or departments, • Documents assigned tasks as required, • Performs work according to supervisor's directives when requested EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school, or two years’ related manufacturing experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED • Proficiency in SolidWorks. Design, modify, reverse engineer, and improve machinery and parts, • Understands blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements, • Ability to set, adjust and change daily priorities, • Ability to handle sudden changes in project/priority and multiple tasks simultaneously in a positive fashion, • Ability to manage conflict and resolve issues in the most positive fashion for all parties concerned, • Ability to identify problems or potential problems at both a strategic and functional level and/or make or recommend decisions to resolve the same, • Willingness to accept responsibility and take on new challenges, • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment on a customary and regular basis Ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Ability to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.
