Position Summary: The Campus Security Officer is responsible for protecting the personnel and property of Covenant College. Officers must maintain the security and integrity of the campus by patrolling and monitoring student, employee, and guest activities. They must also monitor the premises of residences and buildings to detect suspicious activity, provide assistance where needed, and ensure the safety and well-being of all. The Campus Security Officer is responsible for assisting in the management of campus security/safety programs and services, including fire safety, emergency management, parking, and key control. The Campus Security Officer will supervise assigned work study students. Position Classification: Department/Unit: Safety & Security Job Title: Campus Security Officer Job Status: Regular full-time (40hrs/week), FLSA Non-Exempt Reports to Director of Safety & Security Job Class: Professional Job Type: Permanent Benefit Eligible: Yes Responsibilities: • Maintain a strong visual presence on campus., • Protect personnel and property by patrolling the campus/ monitoring video surveillance., • Monitor entrances to the campus., • Maintain security/secure doors/guard against theft., • Respond to alarms and calls for aid or distress. Clear alarms as appropriate., • Provide First Aid as appropriate., • Report rule infractions and violations., • Monitor and assist in the maintenance of security cameras., • Monitor the fire alarm system., • Respond to campus emergencies following appropriate emergency response protocols with emphasis on individuals within the campus community., • Investigate and report on suspicious activities, accidents, and safety concerns., • Supervise student workers., • Issue tickets and citations. Monitor parking areas and special events on campus., • Call for aid when necessary., • Use radios and cellular telephones to maintain contact with other security personnel., • When possible, respond to calls for assistance as they relate to Maintenance and Operations issues and emergencies that arise after hours., • Maintain the Campus Security Vehicles., • When needed, shuttle students to and from the student apartments or the South Campus Road remote parking areas., • Assist with the management and issuance of keys., • Monitor the status of door and key card access systems., • If assigned, carry an assigned firearm on duty in accordance with the College's firearm policy and the College's Officer Response to Resistance or Aggression policy and other established protocols regarding training and conduct., • Assist in the maintenance of the Daily Crime Log., • Other duties and/or department projects as assigned. Requirements: • Demonstrated experience within a security, public safety, or law enforcement organization is required., • Passion for the college environment with an ability to build strong rapport with college students, faculty, and staff., • True team player with a high level of professional ethics and personal integrity who projects a high degree of personal energy and enthusiasm for the work., • Leadership and organizational skills; initiative; ability to prioritize; and act as a proactive problem-solver. Display good judgment and an ability to deal with confidential matters., • Able to relate to others in a cooperative and mature Christian manner with satisfactory oral and written communication skills., • Authentic communicator with exceptional interpersonal skills and a strong understanding of self and awareness of own biases., • Represent the college with a neat appearance and professionalism., • Have an in-depth understanding of applicable laws, risk management, security procedures, policy, and protocol necessary to inform an immediate and correct response to emergencies. Preferences: • Bachelor's or Associate's degree from an accredited college or university., • Experience working in higher education security/public safety is strongly desired. Additional Eligibility Requirements: • An acceptance of and commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord., • An understanding of the mission and purpose of Covenant College., • This role is expected to be performed on campus unless otherwise directed or arranged for and operates primarily around the campus grounds, in campus facilities, and at campus events, as well as occasionally in a professional office environment, using standard office and shop equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and other job-related tools and technology., • This position may be physically demanding and will require some or all of the following: Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, carrying, stooping, and reaching. It will be necessary to operate campus security vehicles. Work may occasionally take place in adverse weather conditions., • Classified as medium, occasional lifting or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) up to 30 lbs., • Expressing or exchanging ideas and conversation by means of the spoken word; needs to be fluent and conversant in the English language., • The responsibilities of the position require evening, weekend, and holiday work schedules and commitments. Days and hours of work may be irregular., • Travel is not required for this position except for training and professional development opportunities.
