American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN PCU - Progressive Care Unit Med Surg for a travel nursing job in Kansas City, Missouri. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: PCU - Progressive Care Unit, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 04/27/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, nights, • Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview • Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs, • Hours: 36 hrs/wk, • Start Date: Apr 27, 2026, • Length: 13 weeks, • 13-week contract at an academic/teaching hospital, • PCU Float unit with rotation across all Med-Surg/Intermediate care units, including ED inpatient holds, • Patient ratio of 1:5, • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15), • 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period (combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), • Floating required to all MSI units, including the ED for inpatient holds — both Kansas and Missouri licensure required due to potential cross-state floating, • No on-call requirement, • Block scheduling is not available, • Patient population includes cardiac, neurological, post-surgical, orthopedic, renal, and respiratory cases, • Clinical skills required include: telemetry monitoring (unit and remote), dysrhythmia interpretation and management, rapid response team utilization, post-cardiac/angiogram/MI/cath/surgery care, IV insulin protocols, feeding tube management, pre/post hemodialysis, renal failure, blood product administration, central line and PICC line management, phlebotomy, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management (with and without titration), PCA, procedural sedation, CVA care, total joint replacement, peripheral nerve block catheters, surgical drains, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, tracheostomy management, wound care/wound vac, and isolation precautions, • Preferred skills include port access and chemotherapy monitoringRequirements, • Active MO or compact RN license in hand at time of consideration — both Kansas and Missouri licenses required due to potential cross-state floating, • Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), • Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/telemetry specialty experience required, with at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months and no employment gap greater than 90 days in the past year, • Previous charge RN experience and teaching hospital background preferred, • 2 professional references required: at least one must be supervisor-level or above, the second may be a charge RN — all references must be from individuals who have worked with the candidate within the past year, • SSN required for consideration, • Local candidates (within a 50-mile radius of the facility) are not eligible for this position, • Travel partners are not accepted for this positionAdditional Information, • First-time travelers are welcome to apply, • RTO is capped at 7 days for the duration of the contract, • Charge RN assignments and holiday shift coverage may be required as needed, • Online compliance modules are required prior to start and are generally completed pre-start (exceptions may be made for IT-related issues) — plan for approximately 10–15 hours of module completion With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
