By mid-day, you’re facilitating a root-cause review on a near-miss, updating a Lockout/Tagout procedure with Maintenance, and planning next week’s HAZWOPER refresher. What You’ll Lead Safety • Own the Safety Committee: schedule, facilitate, and follow up on monthly and quarterly meetings to drive accountability., • Continuously assess workplace conditions, surface hazards, recommend and track corrective actions through the safety system., • Build and maintain safety documentation (training logs, inspections, investigations, and reports) and audit for completeness., • Lead incident and near-miss investigations, deliver root-cause analyses, and implement corrective and preventive actions., • Deliver required annual Safety and Environmental training in line with federal, state, and local rules., • Develop, update, and maintain written programs and policies including IIPP, EHS programs, Hazard Communication (SDS), PPE, Respiratory Protection, Chemical Hygiene, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Confined Space Entry, and Emergency Action Plans., • Partner with management on safety planning and continuous improvement initiatives., • Respond to on-call emergencies (injuries, incidents, alarms) as needed., • Verify maintenance safety protocols, especially LOTO, are followed without exception., • Procure, stock, and sustain safety equipment and supplies. Environmental, • Prepare and submit required federal, state, and local EHS reports and maintain compliance records., • Oversee wastewater systems and air emissions compliance., • Conduct EHS audits, sampling, and measurements to control or eliminate hazards., • Inspect hazardous waste storage areas and coordinate proper disposal., • Maintain and improve the EHS Management System, including documentation, communication, and record retention. Maintenance Support (Preferred), • Organize and track work requests and maintenance activities., • Recommend countermeasures to reduce repeat equipment failures., • Request quotes from subcontractors for facility and production equipment repairs., • Order repair parts and maintenance supplies., • Compile and report maintenance KPIs to leadership. Qualifications & Experience, • 5+ years in EHS within a manufacturing environment., • Experience supporting or working within a maintenance department is a plus., • Working knowledge of environmental and safety regulations and best practices; familiarity with CAL-OSHA, CAL-EPA, DOT, and NFPA., • Experience handling and managing hazardous waste., • Strong project management, organization, and planning capabilities., • Excellent problem-solving, analysis, communication, and interpersonal skills., • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook; maintenance databases a plus., • Safe use of power and hand tools., • Knowledge of safe operating procedures including LOTO, welding safety, and PPE usage., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints is a plus. Education, • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field preferred., • Equivalent industry experience may substitute for formal education at the hiring manager’s discretion. Preferred Certifications, • OSHA Certification, • HAZWOPER Incident Commander, • Train-the-Trainer Certification, • Forklift Certification, • CPR Certification Physical Demands & Work Environment, • Computer-based work approximately 25% of the day., • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted on occasion., • Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, pushing, pulling, and carrying., • Climbing ladders as needed., • Exposure to high noise, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, airborne particles, heat, and fumes., • Close, distance, and depth vision required; safety glasses required.
