Job DescriptionJob Title: Diesel Mechanic (Overnight – Heavy Industrial Equipment) Job Description This role supports overnight operations at a heavy industrial site by inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing diesel-powered equipment and mobile fleet vehicles used in cement, aggregates, ready-mix, or similar industrial environments. You will work primarily on heavy-duty trucks, tractors, loaders, forklifts, haul trucks, and industrial support equipment, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation in a fast-paced, production-driven setting. Responsibilities • Diagnose, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on diesel-powered equipment, including heavy-duty trucks and tractors, loaders, forklifts, haul trucks, and industrial support equipment., • Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, electrical systems, suspensions, drive-train components, air conditioning systems, air brake systems, and diesel brake systems., • Use computer diagnostics, schematics, service manuals, and diagnostic tools to identify and resolve mechanical and electrical issues efficiently., • Perform overnight repairs to minimize downtime and support continuous production operations in a heavy industrial environment., • Conduct thorough safety inspections and ensure all equipment meets DOT and internal safety standards., • Complete routine service tasks such as lubrication, oil changes, filter replacements, belt and hose repairs, and other scheduled maintenance activities., • Accurately document all maintenance work, inspections, and repairs in accordance with company procedures., • Follow all OSHA, MSHA, and company safety policies and procedures while working around heavy machinery and industrial equipment., • Communicate equipment status, repair needs, and maintenance priorities clearly with supervisors, drivers, and operations teams., • Perform preventative maintenance inspections and procedures on a regular basis to reduce unplanned downtime., • Work extended hours, typically 50–60 hours per week, including an overnight shift with frequent overtime and occasional weekend and holiday work based on production needs., • Work on catwalks and at heights of approximately 60–80 feet as required to access and repair equipment., • Collaborate effectively in a team environment and assist on overnight projects when requested., • Maintain and use your own basic hand tools and required minimal tool list; utilize specialty tools provided on site., • Demonstrate strong mechanical problem-solving skills and a willingness to train and become certified in brakes, AC systems, hydraulics, welding, and pneumatics.Essential Skills, • At least 3 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic or Heavy Equipment Mechanic, repairing systems on diesel vehicles and/or trucks., • Experience working in cement, aggregates, mining, construction, ready-mix, or other heavy industrial environments (preferred but strongly relevant)., • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, diesel transmissions, diesel brakes, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical systems, and diagnostics., • Proven experience diagnosing and repairing hydraulic systems, suspensions, drive-train components, air conditioning systems, air brakes, and basic electrical systems., • Ability to read and interpret schematics, service manuals, and diagnostic information., • Valid driver’s license., • Ownership of basic hand tools and the required minimal tool list (specialty tools provided)., • Ability to work in dusty, noisy, hot, and outdoor industrial environments, including open garage and gravel yard conditions., • Ability to lift and carry at least 50 lbs regularly and occasionally lift up to 100 lbs., • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb, work in confined spaces, and perform duties on catwalks at heights of 60–80 feet., • Ability to work overnight shifts with 20+ hours of weekly overtime typical, and to work weekends and holidays as needed., • Ability to work 50–60 hours per week and assist on overnight projects when requested., • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills., • Good verbal and written communication skills., • Stable work history with at least 2 years minimum tenure with prior employers.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • 5+ years of experience repairing systems on diesel vehicles or trucks is highly valued., • Experience in cement, aggregates, ready-mix, mining, or related heavy industrial operations is a plus., • Electrical experience up to 480 VAC and with control systems is a plus., • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus., • Ready-mix industry knowledge or related industry experience is a plus., • Willingness to train and become certified in brakes, AC systems, hydraulics, welding, and pneumatics, with structured opportunities to certify in specific areas., • Comfort working around heavy machinery, industrial equipment, and in outdoor environments., • Experience with lubrication, automotive repair, diesel truck systems, transmissions, and brake systems., • Ability to use computer-based diagnostic tools and follow technical documentation., • Interest in progressing toward Master Mechanic status through ongoing training and certification.Why Work Here? Work Environment Work takes place in an open garage environment set in a gravel yard, with much of the work performed in a shaded but hot outdoor area. The setting is a heavy industrial, ready-mix and aggregates operation with dusty, noisy conditions and frequent interaction with heavy machinery and mobile equipment. Training typically runs for about two weeks on a 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. schedule, Monday through Saturday, after which you transition to an overnight-focused schedule aligned with driver activity and production needs. Typical workdays start around 6:00 a.m. and run until the work is finished, which may be a 12-hour shift, with overnight work required and 50–60 hours per week common. You may work across multiple plant locations within the region, including larger high-volume facilities and smaller satellite plants, and may occasionally assist on overnight projects at different sites. The role requires working on catwalks and at heights of 60–80 feet, as well as in confined spaces around heavy trucks, loaders, forklifts, and industrial support equipment. A valid driver’s license is required to move vehicles and equipment as needed, and security-controlled access may be in place at certain plant locations. Appropriate workwear, including steel-toe footwear, is expected, with support provided for safety footwear once permanent. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Miami, FL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $32.00/hr.
