HMM is looking for a Vessel Operations Manager responsible for the full life cycle of marine operations within America’s region, beginning with continuous process improvement to optimize decisions and efficient workflow. Represent HMM within the industry on Shipping Associations, working groups, and committees, and within the Alliance as necessary to protect HMM's interests. Provide support and develop staff to ensure that service to internal and external Customers is seamless and error-free. Be a leader within the HASA organization to ensure close coordination and communication between the operations, sales, and trade teams. Work closely with the Principal and regional headquarters on all matters, including network, alliance, operations, and cost management. Be a team player and a problem solver who can collaborate with internal and external Customers, establish shared goals and priorities. Key Responsibilities: • Professionally represent HMM with Vendors and Alliance partners in written and verbal communication and negotiations. Work across multiple operating groups on contract compliance to maximize the value and minimize cost for HMM., • Central point of contact for AHQ marine operations for tactical and strategic issues with Europe and Asia marine operations. Communicate issues with impacted personnel in America’s region., • Conduct the mining, management, and analysis of large amounts of financial and statistical data from mainframe and other tools. Conduct cost analysis to support the Marine Operations department, for budgeting, operational KPI, statistical decisions, and track implementation of contract incentives such as volume and/or performance., • Professionally monitor and enforce service contracts for marine terminals, agents, and other service providers. Including but not limited to communication with Vendors, negotiations and procurement of services within corporate guidelines and objectives and support internal Customers such as Terminal Operations, Accounts Payable and Marine Operations., • Participate in meetings with Alliance and VSA partner lines as necessary. Work within the ROC structure and Joint Working Procedures to develop solutions to schedule, terminal, capacity problems, and service failures which protect HMM interests., • Identify risks and develop solutions that align with corporate goals for cost, service, and reliability., • Work to ensure alignment with HQ and other regional HMM offices., • Participate and lead meetings, deliver information in a clear and concise manner, gather information, and follow as necessary., • Develop and maintain KPI to track vessel and terminal activity and continuously refine/improve KPI to best identify variables that may negatively impact the cost of operations and service., • Ensure that written, verbal, and systemic communications relative to marine operations meet the expectations of internal and external customers., • Participate in assignments that span multiple HMM business units to develop and improve working processes., • Complete adhoc and scheduled reports as required., • Performs other duties as assigned. Required Skills & Experience • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or equivalent education and experience required., • Requires at least 5 years of industry experience and 5 years in progressive management or leadership roles Essential Skills: • Experienced with marine terminal operations, understand the activities involved with running a marine terminal, shipment life cycle, and the variety of handling activities, and associate those activities with invoices and contract terms., • Good understanding of IMDG & CFR49 regulations, which is essential for safe handling of HazMat commodities through Ocean, • Experienced with vessel operations, including but not limited to stowage and stability, port services, safety and regulatory requirements, and associate those activities with invoices and contract terms., • Experience negotiating contracts and demonstrated ability to evaluate and monetize terms., • Excellent verbal and written communication skills., • Ability to organize and understand many non-standard documents and information., • Must be able to work effectively and prioritize workflow when working on a tight timeline., • Experience working in a multi-cultural environment., • Have exceptional skills working with MS Office tools such as Excel, Access, and Word., • Have an understanding of operations finance., • Possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills., • Able to multitask and handle information professionally. Additional Details: The pay range listed for this position is the anticipated starting salary or wage range, and the final offered rate will be based on individual merit and the relative compensation of employees in similar positions.
