Job Description Middle-Level French Speaking Toponymist Analyst Location: NGA–St. Louis (NCW) Language Preference: French Clearance: Active TS/SCI (CI Poly eligible) Schedule: Day Shift – Onsite Salary Range is based on Education and experience: $80,000 - $100,000 Shape Global Understanding. As a Middle-Level French Speaking Toponymist Analyst, you will help ensure the accuracy and integrity of geographic names data used throughout the Intelligence Community (IC), Department of Defense (DoD), and U.S. government decision making. Your work will enhance the quality, reliability, and usability of foundational geospatial products used worldwide. Key Responsibilities Geospatial Linguistic & Toponymic Analysis • Analyze, validate, and conflate feature data within the Geographic Names Database (GNDB) and related national repositories., • Apply Board on Geographic Names (BGN) standards, agency policies, and Romanization systems to ensure proper naming conventions and consistent descriptive information across products., • Prepare, maintain, and update GNDB entries, ensuring accuracy, coherence, and compliance with agency guidelines., • Research and collect hydrographic, topographic, and textual source materials to enhance geographic accuracy., • Order, scan, and geo-reference maps and imagery; conflate findings with existing GNDB entries., • Conduct research and geospatial analysis using ArcGIS Pro, QGIS, and associated GEOINT tools., • Produce shapefiles, geodatabases, and data products that integrate multiple sources, including native, secondary, and historic maps., • Work closely with IC partners, geographic names experts, and government counterparts., • Communicate findings clearly and accurately, both verbally and in writing. Candidates must meet one of the following background pathways (minimum 5 total points of relevant experience/education): • Fluent in speaking and writing French, • HS diploma + 5+ years relevant experience, • Bachelor's degree + 4–8 years experience, • ILR 2+ or higher reading proficiency in French, • Intermediate proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and QGIS, • Strong understanding of Geographic Names collection methodologies, • Demonstrated GEOINT research experience, • Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines in a dynamic mission environment, • Experience working with native, secondary, historic maps and imagery for feature extraction and comparison, • Proven ability to create shapefiles, geodatabases, and data products, • Advanced Python scripting capabilities This role is an opportunity to combine linguistic knowledge, geographic insight, and analytical precision in support of global intelligence operations.
