Job Description Hydraulic Repair Technician – Crimping Machines & Hose Assemblies Reports To: Service Manager / Shop Manager FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt Department: Service / Maintenance 1. Position Summary: The Hydraulic Repair Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on hydraulic crimping machines, hydraulic hose assembly equipment, automatic bandsaws, and related hydraulic tools and systems. This role also refurbishes hydraulic equipment and ensures all machines operate safely, efficiently, and within manufacturer specifications. 2. Roles and Responsibilities: Equipment Repair & Troubleshooting · Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues on: o Hydraulic hose crimping machines o Hydraulic power units and pumps o Automatic bandsaws used in hose/hydraulic fabrication o Other hose assembly equipment (cutting, skiving, marking, etc.) · Perform repairs including disassembly, replacement of components, reassembly, and functional testing. · Interpret error codes, abnormal noises, leaks, pressure issues, and performance problems to identify root causes. Preventative Maintenance (PM) · Develop and follow PM schedules for hydraulic crimpers, bandsaws, and related shop equipment. · Complete routine maintenance such as: o Checking and changing hydraulic fluids and filters o Inspecting hoses, seals, fittings, and connections for wear or leaks o Adjusting pressures, alignment, and cutting parameters o Cleaning and lubricating moving parts · Maintain accurate records of all service, repairs, and inspections. Refurbishment & Rebuilds · Tear down and refurbish used or worn hydraulic equipment (e.g., crimpers, power units, presses). · Replace seals, hoses, valves, and other components to restore equipment to reliable operating condition. · Clean, repaint, and reassemble machines as required for resale or redeployment. Safety & Compliance · Follow all company and OSHA safety policies when working with high‑pressure hydraulic systems, cutting equipment, and electrical components. · Ensure guards, interlocks, and safety features are installed and functioning correctly. · Identify and report unsafe conditions or equipment. Customer & Internal Support · Work closely with counter staff, sales, and management to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime. · Provide technical support and basic operator training on proper use, care, and daily checks of hydraulic equipment. · Occasionally assist with field service calls (if applicable) at customer sites for installation, start‑up, or on‑site repairs. General Shop Duties · Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. · Assist with inventory of spare parts, hoses, fittings, and tooling. · Support hose assembly production as needed (cutting hose, crimping assemblies, etc.). 3. Qualifications & Skills: Required: · Previous experience working with hydraulic systems, hose assemblies, or industrial machinery repair. · Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of hydraulic principles (pressure, flow, cylinders, valves, pumps). · Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, hydraulic schematics, and basic wiring diagrams. · Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, pressure gauges, multimeters). · Basic electrical troubleshooting skills (motors, relays, switches, sensors). · Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work with minimal supervision. · Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship. Preferred: · Experience specifically with hydraulic crimping machines and hose assembly equipment. · Experience with automatic bandsaws, cutting machines, and guarding systems. · Familiarity with major hydraulic brands (e.g., Parker, Gates, Eaton, etc.) – adjust to what you use. · Vocational/technical training in hydraulics, industrial maintenance, or a related field. · Forklift certification (or ability to obtain). 4. Physical Requirements & Work Environment: · Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift/move up to 50 lbs (or your requirement). · Frequent use of hands and arms to handle tools, components, and hoses. · Work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, hydraulic oil, cutting fluids, and moving machinery. · Use of PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, steel toe boots, and hearing protection is required.
