Job Description Position Summary: The Humanities teachers for Upper School (7th through 12th graders) teach classes in composition, rhetoric, literature, history, and foreign languages. At Ascent Classical Academy of Northern Colorado (ACANC), teachers create their own lessons within the framework set by our content-rich curriculum, in collaboration with colleagues and in partnership with Hillsdale College's Barney Charter School Initiative. ACANC is dedicated to the intellectual and moral betterment of our students and encourages teachers to take their own moral and intellectual improvement seriously as part of a supportive and excellence-driven culture. The teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction and fostering a positive, supportive learning environment. This role includes guiding students through structured, content-rich lessons in a specific discipline, nurturing intellectual curiosity, and instilling moral and civic virtues. Teachers provide students with a robust educational experience during each class period, ensuring they develop academically and personally. In addition, teachers are expected to maintain clear expectations, demonstrate subject matter expertise, and care for the individual growth of each student. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: • Prepare unit and lesson plans for all courses in alignment with Hillsdale College's K12 Program Guide for each school year, • Teach and mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods, • Assign, collect, grade, and return graded work in a timely manner, • Continuously monitor student progress and self-evaluate how best to support effective student learning, • Proactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions, • Collaborate with Students Services team to meet requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others, • Communicate regularly, usually weekly, with parents, • Assist in daily operations of the school (e.g., taking attendance, supervising student arrivals, passing periods in hallways, lunchtime and recess supervision) on a shared schedule, • Participate in professional development as offered by ACANC and Hillsdale College's K12 Office, • Maintain confidentiality in student records, • Maintains a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners, • Performs other related duties as directed, • Cultivating virtue through instruction, mentorship, and programming, • Participating in Upper School House System as faculty mentor, • Bachelor's degree and/or passing score on the State Praxis in the subject area required, • Teachers with a bachelor's degree in the subject taught are preferred, or at a minimum 36 hours of higher education credit in the subject area of instruction. (In some cases, a passing grade in a content exam will suffice.), • Strong background in relevant content areas with a willingness to receive specific training, • Commitment to the policies, mission, and vision of Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools, Inc., • Conviction in the values of a rigorous liberal arts education, • Commitment to model moral character in line with the school's core virtues, • Adherence to all ACACS policies, including but not limited to the Employee Handbook, Family Handbook, and applicable school and board policies, • Proficiency in English verbal and written, • Proficiency in a variety of teaching strategies and techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities, • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to effectively articulate information and issues, • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire students to achieve their personal best, • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment with superior organization and computer skills, • Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and team members, • Ability to provide excellent customer service while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism, • Creative problem-solving skills and adaptability to challenges, • Patience, reliability, and a positive attitude, • Demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance by adhering to assigned work hours, reporting on time, and following proper procedures for absences or tardiness to ensure minimal disruption to students, colleagues, and school operations., • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds, • Must be able to traverse classroom and building, • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer, or standing, • Must be able to monitor indoor and outdoor activities Mandatory Background Checks: In alignment with our commitment to student safety, all candidates are required to undergo a comprehensive background check, which includes reviewing criminal records and may require fingerprinting.
