Job Description Job Title: Prep Worker Job Description This role supports a busy metal shop by preparing, cleaning, and painting metal components and sub-assemblies in a large manufacturing environment. You will work primarily on first shift, using hand tools and material handling equipment to ensure parts are properly prepped, finished, and ready for the next stage of production while maintaining a safe and organized work area. Responsibilities • Paint metal components and sub-assemblies in accordance with job orders and blueprints., • Prepare steel and aluminum surfaces by removing visible oil, grease, soil, cutting compounds, and other soluble contaminants., • Remove loose mill scale, loose rust, and other loose foreign matter from steel surfaces to ensure proper finish quality., • Use overhead cranes, fork trucks, hand carts, and dollies to handle and manipulate product components safely., • Coordinate with administrative staff to complete job orders efficiently and on schedule., • Perform general production, grinding, cleaning, and prepping tasks as needed to support the workflow., • Use hand tools and grinders for metal preparation, finishing, and quality checks., • Conduct basic inspections and quality checks on prepared and painted parts to ensure they meet standards., • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area in compliance with shop safety practices., • Wear appropriate safety and protective equipment at all times while working in the metal shop., • Work comfortably around machinery, welding areas, and painting work cells in a heavy manufacturing environment. Essential Skills • Comfort working in a metal shop and heavy manufacturing environment., • Experience using hand tools in a production or general labor setting., • Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately., • Comfort working around machinery, including welding, painting, and metal fabrication equipment., • Ability to use grinders for metal preparation and finishing tasks., • Capability to perform general production, cleaning, prepping, and painting tasks., • Basic inspection and quality check skills for metal components., • Ability to safely operate or assist with overhead cranes, fork trucks, hand carts, and dollies for material handling., • Reliability and consistency in following safety procedures and wearing required protective equipment., • Willingness to perform physical work in a warehouse metal shop environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience in metals or metal fabrication is helpful., • Experience in heavy manufacturing or industrial production environments., • Familiarity with metal prep processes, including cleaning and surface preparation., • Comfort working independently in individual work cells., • Openness to learning new skills and expanding responsibilities over time., • Positions do not require advanced skills, but require comfort with the environment and willingness to learn. Work Environment This position is based in a metal shop manufacturing facility with approximately 25 employees. The work takes place in a large warehouse building with mostly individual work cells, many of which focus on welding, painting, and metal fabrication activities. You will work on first shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in a heavy manufacturing environment that involves machinery, overhead cranes, fork trucks, hand carts, and dollies for moving materials and product components. The role requires consistent use of appropriate safety and protective equipment and comfort working around metalworking processes, noise, and industrial equipment in a production-focused setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Las Vegas, NV. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
