Job DescriptionJob Title: Civil Superintendent Job Description The Civil Superintendent oversees all civil construction activities on-site and serves as a key link between the civil and quality teams. This role works closely with subcontractors, engineers, and the broader project team to ensure that grading, excavation, trenching, foundations, and related civil scopes are built to specification, safely, and on schedule. The Civil Superintendent supports field productivity, enforces site policies, resolves constructability and coordination issues, and helps ensure a smooth transition to subsequent phases of construction. Responsibilities • Oversee all on-site civil construction activities, including grading, site clearing, basin excavation, and road installation., • Manage trenching, backfilling, and compaction operations to ensure they meet design and quality requirements., • Supervise the installation of foundations for inverter pads, tracker posts, and racking systems, ensuring compliance with drawings and specifications., • Coordinate and monitor SWPPP and erosion control measures, including perimeter fencing, stormwater management, and landscape buffer installation., • Work closely with subcontractors to ensure that quality, schedule, and safety standards are consistently met across all civil scopes., • Review civil drawings and contract documents, identify conflicts or constructability issues, and collaborate with construction management and engineering teams to resolve them promptly without impacting schedule or quality., • Ensure proper layout and survey control for all civil work and verify as-built conditions against design requirements., • Conduct daily site walks to monitor work progress, environmental compliance, safety compliance, and QA/QC standards., • Enforce site-specific quality and safety procedures in collaboration with QA/QC and Safety teams., • Hold subcontractors accountable for productivity, workmanship, and adherence to project requirements., • Inspect civil work elements to verify proper installation and compliance with project specifications, codes, and standards., • Apply construction management and supervision skills to coordinate earthwork, site construction, and related civil activities., • Collaborate with electrical and mechanical teams to support integration of civil work with electrical construction and renewable energy systems., • Use construction technology tools, including MS Office and Procore, to manage documentation, reporting, and communication., • Maintain clear, professional communication with project stakeholders and support conflict management and issue resolution on site.Essential Skills, • 3+ years of experience as a Civil Superintendent or Solar Civil Superintendent overseeing civil construction activities., • Strong background in civil construction, with emphasis on mass grading, trenching, earthworks, and site construction., • Experience working with general contractors and managing subcontractors in the field., • Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, and contract exhibits., • Attention to detail and ability to assess quality of civil installations and overall workmanship., • Experience with electrical construction and electrical components as they relate to civil scopes., • Ability to inspect project elements and verify compliance with project specifications and quality standards., • Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize and schedule work effectively., • Proficiency with MS Office (MS Suite) and construction management platforms such as Procore., • Construction safety awareness and comprehension, including enforcement of site-specific safety procedures., • Strong knowledge of various areas of construction, including civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines., • Exceptional leadership skills with the ability to lead and motivate a diverse group of field personnel., • Ability to influence others to adhere to company policies, procedures, and instructions., • Disciplined, self-motivated work style with the ability to work independently and as part of a team., • Analytical mindset with a high level of organization and attention to detail., • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • QA/QC experience in civil construction is a plus., • Experience working on renewable energy or solar projects is highly beneficial., • Familiarity with NEC and its application in projects involving electrical components., • Good verbal and written communication skills; bilingual in Spanish is a plus but not required., • Proficient in operating a computer and laptop and comfortable learning new software tools., • Visual thinker with strong problem-solving abilities and a focus on implementing practical solutions., • Industrial relations knowledge for recognizing and helping resolve potential labor issues., • Conflict management skills and the ability to de-escalate and resolve disputes on site., • Ability to multi-task effectively, including prioritizing, organizing, and scheduling multiple work activities., • Experience working with SWPPP, erosion control measures, and stormwater management on construction sites.Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is primarily field-based, with most of the work performed outdoors on a large-scale 100 MW project site. You will split your time between the construction site and a dedicated work site trailer that serves as a field office. The project is managed by a general contractor, and you will be part of the team performing quality control and oversight within the civil scope. The standard schedule runs Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and candidates should expect and be available for regular Saturday work. You can anticipate working approximately 10–25 hours of overtime per week, depending on project needs. Per diem is provided on days worked, and mileage is reimbursed when using your own vehicle on site. The environment is fast-paced and hands-on, with regular interaction with subcontractors, engineers, and project management, and it requires consistent adherence to safety protocols and field procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Richmond, VA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
