PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Director of Human Resources ensures HR practices align with Goodwill’s mission, are grounded in organizational values, and support a positive, trusting, and collaborative culture. The Director provides strategic leadership and oversight of organizational HR functions, including but not limited to workforce planning, talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, compensation strategy and structure, HR technology, and HR compliance. The Director also manages workers’ compensation administration, collaborating closely with Corporate Risk on HR-related safety processes. The Director serves as a strategic partner and advisor to department directors and leaders working collaboratively to strengthen leadership capability, build trust, and ensure that employment decisions are transparent, well-communicated, consistent, and aligned with both compliance requirements and organizational values. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Vice President of Administration SUPERVISION EXERCISED: HR Generalists, Talent Acquisition Specialist, and assigned HR staff. QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION: • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or related field required., • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR preferred., • Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR leadership experience., • Demonstrated experience in workers’ compensation administration and employee relations., • Strong communication skills with demonstrated ability to build trust, collaborate professionally, and work effectively with leaders at all levels., • Knowledge of employment law, HR best practices, compensation systems, and HRIS platforms. ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Represent Goodwill’s values and mission to internal and external stakeholders. Tracking and providing outreach related metrics to leadership. Ensures changes are thoughtfully paced, well-communicated, and collaboratively developed with affected leaders., • Employee Relations & Investigations: Partners with leaders to address concerns through coaching, shared analysis, and joint problem-solving. Conducts investigations with professionalism, fairness, and clear explanation of findings., • Talent Management & Workforce Planning: Serves as a thought partner to directors in forecasting staffing needs, designing roles, developing job descriptions, and supporting leadership development within departments., • Compensation Strategy Collaboration: Leads compensation philosophy, job classification, market benchmarking, and pay equity strategy. Ensures compensation decisions are transparent, consistent, and aligned with financial, legal, and organizational considerations., • Workers’ Compensation & Leave Oversight: Oversees workers’ compensation claims, injury reporting, and return-to-work processes while ensuring leaders understand requirements and implications., • Confidentiality & Ethics: Maintains high ethical standards and handles all HR matters with discretion, integrity, and fairness. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Strategic Leadership & Organizational Partnership • Build and maintain strong, trusting relationships with department directors and leaders., • Partner with leaders to co-create transparent, legally compliant, values-aligned employment decisions., • Ensure HR communicates the ‘why’ behind decisions, changes, and policies., • Support culture and organizational development across all departments., • Support directors in building leadership capability by coaching, advising, and developing their understanding of effective people management practices.., • Represent HR in cross-department initiatives and HR-related strategic planning. 2. Compensation Strategy • Lead the development and maintenance of compensation structures, job classifications, and market benchmarking., • Ensure compensation decisions and structures are transparent, equitable, and clearly understood., • Collaborate with CFO and Director of Payroll & Benefits on compensation impacts, compliance, and communication., • Provide guidance to directors on compensation decisions, offers, and adjustments. 3. Benefits Strategy (Collaborative) • Provide strategic HR input on benefit plan design and long-range planning., • Collaborate with Director of Payroll & Benefits on renewals, employee communications, and benefits processes., • Identify process improvements and emerging employee needs related to benefits. 4. Workers’ Compensation, Safety, and HR Risk Processes • Oversee workers’ compensation claims and return-to-work processes with clarity and collaboration., • Partner with Corporate Risk on safety-related documentation and follow-up., • Support leaders in understanding incident management and injury-related requirements. 5. Talent Acquisition & Workforce Planning • Lead recruitment, hiring, and onboarding processes., • Collaborate with leaders to develop high-quality job descriptions., • Assist departments in forecasting workforce needs and creating staffing plans. 6. Employee Relations & Investigations • Coach leaders to handle performance and conduct issues with fairness and consistency., • Conduct timely, thorough, and impartial investigations., • Promote a culture where concerns are addressed thoughtfully and respectfully. 7. Compliance & Policy Administration • Serve as the Corporate Compliance Officer. Interpret and apply compliance requirements in a collaborative, educational manner., • Lead HR policy development and ensure policy changes are communicated effectively and understood by leaders., • Serve as EEO Coordinator and coordinate required EEO reporting., • Maintain documentation and audit readiness. 8. Training, Culture & Organizational Development • Partner with the Director of Training & Development and other leaders to identify organizational training needs., • Support leadership development initiatives., • Collaborate with Mission and Communications teams to promote organizational values and employee support strategies. 9. Other Duties • Engage in professional development and support organization-wide initiatives., • Perform additional duties as assigned.
