Our programs are spread across 25 locations and include over 1200 units of supportive housing in three boroughs, the Howie the Harp Advocacy Center, Peer-driven Crisis Respite Center, Adult Home Initiative, Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) and the Intensive Mobile Team (IMT). Program Description Howie the Harp Advocacy Center (HTH), which is run by professionals who have personal experience with the mental health system, offers an array of services that help individuals with mental health concerns find meaningful, permanent employment and develop careers, primarily in human services. All HTH programs are based on the core values of self-determination and peer expertise. Through the Comprehensive Peer Training Program, Assisted Competitive Employment Program (ACE), and other initiatives, the Academy offers a wide range of services including training, internship experience, job placement and support, and continuing education services. Position Overview The Peer Trainer will develop and offer a series of workshops designed to help peer specialists learn about different specialties in peer work and practice the skills that different roles would require. This would help better prepare those who are interested in working with people who are experiencing mental health crises in a variety of settings such as: mobile crisis response teams; in hospitals; in crisis respite residences; street outreach; or on Intensive Mobile Treatment or Assertive Community Treatment Teams (IMT/ACT), and Intensive and Sustained Engagement Team (INSET) which often work with people with higher needs who may frequently be in crisis. The target populations for these trainings would be those enrolled in our Howie the Harp peer training program as well as for people already working in the peer field who would like to explore different types of jobs or hone skills in their current areas of practice. Key Performance Indicators • Develops and annually updates a curriculum of relevant trainings and workshops that cover the latest developments in NYC crisis response services and their best practices., • Conduct trainings as scheduled., • Group notes are completed within 48 business hours of the class meeting. The major functions of this role are to provide recovery coaching and peer advocacy to the identified population. The Family Peer Advocate offers education about available substance use disorder prevention, treatment and recovery services, harm reduction techniques and supplies as well as collateral and supportive services. The Family Peer Advocate works to reduce stigma through sharing of their own lived experience. SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Establishes a respectful, trusting relationship with program participants., 2. Assists participants to identify and build on their strengths and resiliencies., 3. Assist the individual in identifying basic needs., 4. Conducts outreach and educational presentations on access to substance use disorder prevention, treatment and recovery services with the identified population., 5. Conducts outreach and educational presentations on a range of collateral services such as healthcare, dentistry, psychiatry, rental and housing assistance, health insurance options, legal assistance, domestic violence victim’s services, vocational training and remedial education with the identified population., 6. Provides guidance and resources to help participants access desired services., 7. Maintains certification as opioid overdose reversal trainer., 8. Provides opioid overdose reversal training to program participants and distributes medication for opioid overdose reversal., 9. Delivers harm reduction education and provides harm reductions supplies such as fentanyl test strips, wound care kits and safer sex supplies., 10. Escorts persons served to appointments with service providers when desired., 11. Facilitates warm hand-offs with network service providers during transitions in care., 12. Provides recovery coaching services with the identified population., 13. Provides guidance, support and advocacy to facilitate engagement in recovery activities, treatment and collateral services., 14. Responsibilities are as follows: • Customize client workout programs developed from the Initial Assessment, • Utilize the Svetness Fitness App for all client sessions, including programming & session notes, • Demonstrate each exercise and ensure client is performing correctly with or without modifications, • Conduct client Reassessments every 4-6 weeks, • Maintain client session appointments through Svetness scheduling software, • Able to provide a flexible schedule to accommodate client appointments, • Certified Personal Trainer: Accredited by NCCA, DEAC, or NBFE., • CPR/AED Certification: Ensure clients' safety with up-to-date CPR/AED training., • Education and experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent and 1-3 years of personal training experience., • Strong communication skills: Effectively communicate verbally, in writing, and technically., • Knowledgeable in nutrition: Possess a basic understanding of nutrition and healthy living practices., • Fitness expertise: Familiarity with a variety of exercise equipment and personal training methods., • Physical ability: Capable of lifting, pushing, pulling up to 50 lbs. and performing athletic calisthenics duties., • Requirements for this position include the possession of personal basic training equipment to effectively assist clients in achieving their goals. It is important to note that clients may not always have access to the necessary equipment.
