Job DescriptionDescriptionThe VP, Associate General Counsel, Compliance, Privacy, AI Governance, and Legal Operations, leads Align’s global governance programs to ensure the company operates with integrity, protects data, and scales governance responsibly. This role sets enterprise strategy across compliance and privacy, advances AI governance, and drives operational excellence within Legal through simple, technology‑enabled solutions that accelerate decision‑making, mitigate risk, and support compliant business growth. Reporting directly to the EVP, Chief Legal and Regulatory Officer, this leader serves as a key member of the Global Legal, RA/QA/GA Leadership Team, shaping global standards, priorities, and governance frameworks while advancing an AI-first operating model. The role requires a seasoned executive who brings strong legal acumen, sound business judgment, and curiosity in a fast-moving, matrixed environment. This position is based in Raleigh, San Jose, or Tempe, and is an in-office role 5 days per week. Role expectations • Compliance Leadership: Oversee the global compliance program, including policies, controls, training, monitoring, and investigations. Set enterprise compliance priorities and enable consistent execution across regions through regional compliance leaders. Partner directly with Americas business and functional leaders to provide practical, risk‑based guidance. Manage the APAC and EMEA Regional Compliance, Privacy, and AI Directors. Deliver semi-annual program updates to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors., • Privacy & Data Governance: Lead global privacy operations and data governance strategy. Ensure compliance with global privacy and emerging data/AI regulatory requirements. Oversee privacy operations, including notices, DPIAs, incident response, vendor assessments, and training. Manage the Assistant Privacy, AI and Data Governance Officer and Senior Counsel, Global AI and Privacy Americas. Deliver semi-annual program updates to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors., • AI Governance: Lead the enterprise AI governance framework and ensure responsible, ethical, and compliant use of AI. Partner with legal, technology, and business teams to implement processes for AI risk management, model oversight, and regulatory compliance. Promote an AI‑first mindset and drive adoption of AI tools to increase efficiency. Deliver once a year program updates to the Technology Committee of the Board of Directors., • Legal Operations & Innovation: Lead the Legal Operations function, including technology strategy, automation, analytics, service delivery, and process optimization. Streamline workflows, eliminate non‑value‑added activities, and enable data‑driven decision‑making. Drive cross‑functional simplification and operational excellence across legal and compliance. Manage the Senior Director, Global Investigations & Legal Operations., • Team & Leadership: Lead and develop a global multi‑disciplinary team of 12 total reports, spanning compliance, privacy, AI governance, and legal operations. Build organizational capabilities, establish clear metrics, and foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement., • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience across compliance, privacy, data governance, AI governance, and legal operations within multinational organizations, • Demonstrated ability to scale enterprise governance programs globally, • Strong executive presence with experience advising senior leadership and Boards, • Deep understanding of technology risk and emerging AI regulatory frameworks, • Proven ability to balance legal risk with commercial priorities in complex, matrixed environments, • Experience in highly regulated industries (medical device, pharmaceutical, biotech, or similar), • Track record leading investigations and enterprise risk mitigation initiatives, • Resilient, agile leader comfortable operating across diverse jurisdictions and ambiguity, • J.D. from an accredited US law school and licensed to practice in an applicable jurisdiction. Exempt employees will receive their full salary during any week they serve and perform any work.
