Job DescriptionJob Title: Commercial HVAC Service TechnicianJob Description The Commercial HVAC Service Technician installs, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems in commercial environments such as offices, retail stores, and other business facilities. This role works directly with blueprints and schematics to troubleshoot and service existing HVAC units, ensuring they operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant standards. Responsibilities • Install, maintain, and repair commercial HVAC systems in offices, retail stores, and other business establishments., • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation to diagnose and resolve HVAC issues., • Regularly inspect and test HVAC systems to verify proper operation and identify potential problems., • Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in HVAC systems, including mechanical, electrical, and control-related issues., • Repair or replace faulty parts and components in HVAC systems to restore safe and efficient operation., • Perform regular preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment to ensure optimal performance and extend system lifespan., • Verify that HVAC systems operate with energy efficiency in mind and comply with applicable safety and environmental standards., • Document work performed, including inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities, in an accurate and timely manner., • Communicate clearly with internal teams and customers about findings, recommended repairs, and maintenance needs., • Travel independently to job sites within the assigned service area and manage time effectively to complete scheduled work., • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24-hour service coverage during assigned weeks.Essential Skills, • 1–5 years of experience in HVAC service, in either commercial or residential settings., • Hands-on experience with HVAC servicing, including installation, repair, and maintenance of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems., • Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing HVAC system issues, including electrical and mechanical problems., • Proficiency in performing preventive maintenance on HVAC systems to maintain optimal operation., • OSHA 10 certification., • EPA certification., • Working knowledge of electrical systems related to HVAC equipment., • Experience with boilers and related HVAC components., • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics., • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license., • Capability to work independently in the field and manage multiple service calls within a defined territory.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Experience in both commercial and residential HVAC service environments., • Familiarity with energy-efficient HVAC practices and compliance with safety and environmental regulations., • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail when diagnosing system issues., • Effective communication skills for interacting with customers and team members., • Commitment to ongoing training and professional development in HVAC technologies and safety standards.Why Work Here? Technicians typically work within a 30-mile radius of the headquarters in the Rochester, NY area and drive themselves to job sites. Projects vary in size and scope depending on the client and location. Standard hours of operation follow a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch break. Service technicians participate in a 24-hour on-call rotation for one week at a time, from Monday through Sunday, approximately every five to six weeks, and receive a bonus for each on-call week. Company uniforms are provided, and all required personal protective equipment is supplied, except for work boots. The role involves hands-on work with HVAC systems, power tools, and field-based service activities in a variety of commercial settings. Job Type & Location This is a Permanent position based out of Rochester, NY. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $32.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
