Job DescriptionJob Title: Painter Helper (Day Shift) Job Description This role supports a busy powder coating shop that produces custom-engineered electrical gear for energy, industrial, and critical infrastructure applications. You work in and around the paint booth to assist with painting, powder coating, and spraying fabricated sheet metal electrical cabinets, ensuring coatings meet specified ratios, thickness, and adhesion standards while supporting overall production needs. Responsibilities • Assist with painting, powder coating, and spraying fabricated sheet metal components for electrical cabinets in and around the paint booth., • Mix and apply paint and coatings in correct ratios according to specifications and job requirements., • Help with blasting and prepping parts, including sanding and surface preparation, to ensure proper coating adhesion., • Move materials, parts, and finished components safely throughout the shop to support production flow., • Perform general labor tasks in the paint area, including cleaning work areas, organizing materials, and supporting other team members as needed., • Test paint and coatings for appropriate thickness and adherence to products, including calculating coating millage when required., • Assist with operating spray guns, paint sprayers, and powder coating equipment under supervision and in line with safety procedures., • Support production by performing odd jobs and cross-functional tasks within the paint and powder coat area as assigned., • Follow all safety protocols, including the proper use of personal protective equipment, and maintain a clean, orderly work environment., • Collaborate with machine shop, fabrication, and quality control teams to meet production schedules and quality standards in a fast-paced environment.Essential Skills, • At least 1 year of industrial painting experience., • Hands-on experience assisting with painting, blasting, and prepping parts in a manufacturing environment., • Industrial painting skills, including spray painting and use of spray guns and paint sprayers., • Ability to perform paint prep tasks such as sanding, cleaning, and masking parts., • Experience working in a production or manufacturing setting (non-refinery)., • Willingness to perform general labor duties in addition to painting and coating tasks., • Familiarity with working in or around a paint booth and powder coating operations., • Ability to test paint for thickness and adherence and to calculate coating millage when needed., • Comfort working in a fast-paced, busy production shop with extended hours., • Ability to follow safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and steel-toe footwear.Additional Skills & Qualifications, • Extensive industrial paint experience, including experience with different epoxies., • Background in blasting and sandblasting operations., • Experience with powder coating and coating applications in a production environment., • Exposure to auto body, construction, or similar spray painting and coating work., • Experience with assembly and general production tasks in a manufacturing shop., • Comfort working with industrial paint, coatings, and related equipment in a team setting.Why Work Here? Work Environment You work in a medium-sized, very clean and organized shop that is one of several facilities in the operation. The production area is non–climate controlled with open bay doors and ample fans to maintain airflow. The environment is fast paced and busy, with around 15 people per shift, including machine operators, fabricators, quality control, material handlers, and leadership, with additional powder coaters planned as the facility grows. Day shift runs Monday through Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and it is extremely common to work 50–60 hours per week, with a 40-hour week being rare. A comparable night shift schedule also exists for reference. Required attire includes steel-toe footwear, jeans, a work shirt, and safety glasses, reflecting a hands-on industrial setting focused on safety and productivity. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $15.00 - $16.00/hr.
