CAD/CAM Programmer Location: South Houston, TX – near Highway 288 and Airport Boulevard Work Arrangement: Onsite Schedule: Full-time, 40+ hours per week Compensation: Negotiable and based on experience Position Overview The CAD/CAM Programmer is responsible for developing and optimizing programs for flat-sheet and tube-metal fabrication, including laser cutting, press brake, punching, and other fabrication processes. This position works closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to create accurate, efficient, and production-ready programs that meet manufacturing requirements. Key Job Responsibilities • Create, modify, and maintain 2D and 3D CAD models, flat patterns, and CAM programs for laser and fabrication equipment., • Generate and optimize CNC programs for flat-sheet and tube laser cutting, punching, and bending operations using BySoft CAM, Fusion 360, and related software., • Interpret customer drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to create accurate production-ready files, including DXF, STP, and NC code., • Review designs for manufacturability, accuracy, material utilization, and production efficiency., • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality teams to ensure programs meet design specifications and fabrication tolerances., • Create and optimize nesting layouts to reduce scrap and maximize material utilization., • Integrate and maintain programming data within Global Shop Solutions ERP., • Use Zumen for document control, revision management, and production-file accuracy., • Troubleshoot and resolve issues involving nesting, tooling, machine compatibility, cutting parameters, and production output., • Support press brake programming and other fabrication processes as required., • Maintain accurate program files, documentation, revision records, and production data., • Support continuous-improvement efforts by refining programming standards, templates, and workflows for greater efficiency and repeatability., • Complete all other duties as assigned. Required Skills • Strong technical knowledge of CAD/CAM programming and metal-fabrication processes., • Proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, and BySoft CAM., • Ability to create and modify 2D drawings, 3D models, flat patterns, and CNC programs., • Strong understanding of CNC laser cutting, press brake programming, punching, nesting, and fabrication workflows., • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, customer specifications, blueprints, and bills of materials., • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)., • Understanding of sheet- and tube-metal materials, including carbon steel, aluminum, and stainless steel., • Knowledge of fabrication tolerances and material characteristics., • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills., • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy., • Effective verbal and written communication skills., • Ability to collaborate with engineering, production, quality, and manufacturing teams., • Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting production schedules and deadlines. Education and Training • Associate degree or technical certification in CNC Programming, CAD/CAM Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field is preferred., • Equivalent professional experience may be considered. Minimum Requirements • At least three years of CAD/CAM programming experience in flat-sheet and/or tube-metal fabrication., • Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Fusion 360, and BySoft CAM., • Experience developing programs for CNC laser cutting, press brake, punching, or related fabrication equipment., • Working knowledge of GD&T, metal materials, fabrication tolerances, and manufacturing processes., • Ability to manage multiple assignments accurately and meet established deadlines. Preferred Qualifications • Associate degree in CNC Programming, CAD/CAM Technology, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field., • Experience with Global Shop Solutions ERP., • Experience using Zumen for document control and revision management., • Experience programming both flat-sheet and tube-laser equipment., • Experience supporting press brake programming and production operations. Physical Requirements and Work Environment • Work is performed in an onsite shop and manufacturing environment., • Must be able to work in a non-air-conditioned environment., • May be exposed to noise, heat, dust, moving equipment, and other common manufacturing conditions., • Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, and move throughout the facility., • Must be able to stand for up to 10 hours per day, with scheduled meal and rest periods., • Must be available to work up to six days per week when production demands require it., • Must be able to frequently move materials weighing up to 50 pounds., • Requires normal vision and the ability to distinguish colors accurately., • Safety glasses and steel-toe boots are required within the manufacturing facility., • Hearing protection is recommended and may be required in designated areas., • Must follow all established safety procedures and personal protective equipment requirements.
