Job Description Job Description: JOB TITLE Security Monitor PROGRAM Refugio Unaccompanied Children Shelter REPORTS TO Program Director SALARY 22.36 LOCATION Tampa, FL JOB TYPE Full-Time WORK SCHEDULE Five Days per week, 40 Hours per week, 12 Months per year General Description The Security Monitor (SM) is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and traumatically aware environment for Unaccompanied Children (UC), staff and visitors within an ORR-funded care facility. This role ensures compliance with ORR, state licensing and organizational policies related to safety, incident reporting, facility access, and emergency procedures. SM supports a child-focused environment while upholding professional boundaries and maintaining vigilance over the facility’s security operations. The SM will relay any concerns to the Program Director and Assistant Program Director that might represent a danger to children and staff. Minimum Qualifications • High school diploma or equivalent degree and, • 2 years employment experience, • Must have base technical skills in Microsoft applications to include Excel, Word and Smartsheet’s., • Knowledge of and adherence to industry best practices, laws, and regulations governing background checks., • Familiarity with relevant databases and security best practices., • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment., • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information with the utmost discretion., • Associate’s degree in criminal justice, human resources, security management, or a related field., • Any relevant certifications in security fields., • 5 years of experience in the related field. What You’ll Be Doing • Provides Security Monitoring., • Maintains surveillance systems and ensures they are recorded at all times., • Ensures correct dates and times are recorded on the surveillance systems., • May provide direct supervision of UAC and ensure they maintain line-of-sight at all times., • Communicates frequently with a shift supervisor., • Assists during transition and movement of children from one activity to the next and one physical location to another depending on the department assigned., • Participates in ongoing meetings, conferences, and training programs as required., • Provides coverage for assigned staff when needed., • Responsible for adhering to all Urban Strategies , contract agencies, and other state regulations., • Performs duties in a safe manner., • Follows the corporate safety policy., • Participates in and supports safety meetings, training, and goals., • Ensures safe operating conditions within the area of responsibility., • Maintains a clean and orderly work area., • Other duties as assigned by supervisor., • Evacuates site with short notice in case of an emergency, • Must be able to assist in evacuation due to severe weather threat (i.e., hurricanes, flooding,etc.), • Adheres to Urban Strategies, ORR and State regulations, policies and procedures., • Performs duties in a safe manner., • Maintain records of children leaving the premise by recording the date, time, transporting staff, vehicle number, destination, and client/staff ratio within the vehicle., • Ensures the development of program Security Monitors work schedules and recommends approval or disapproval of personal leave requests, holiday leave requests, and/or sick leave requests to Program Director or designee., • Responsible for inventory control of facility’s two-way radios, keys, tracking system of vehicles and other program supplies., • Ensures record keeping and compliance of all fire safety protocols and equipment including fire extinguishers, evacuation routes and assists with fire drills., • Ensure SM team monitors the supervision and staff conduct with children is appropriate and in accordance with ORR, state, federal and all relevant child welfare guidelines governing policies to ensure the safety and well-being of children in care., • Conducts and documents facility perimeter checks several times during the shifts as per ORR PSA Policy, 45 CFR 411 and Urban Strategies Zero Tolerance Policy., • Ensures SM team assists Youth Care Department, Medical, Case Management and Clinical Departments with headcount by providing support through the control center as the hub to locate children’s location around the facility., • Ensuring that all safety organizational safety initiatives are carried out/enforced at the program to ensure safety and security of all children and program staff., • Assists in completing annual performance appraisals of Security Monitors under their direct supervision with final approval from program administrators,, • Able to use and provide proper care of residential program surveillance monitoring systems in accordance with ORR PSA Policy, 45 CFR 411 and Urban Strategies Zero Tolerance Policy., • May lead or participate in interdepartmental project groups or task forces to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems, and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, new task efforts, contract awards, and new policy requirements., • Perform duties in a safe manner. Follows the corporate safety policy. Participates and supports safety meetings, training, and goals. Ensures safe operating conditions within area of responsibility.
