Job Description YOUR OPPORTUNITY FOR IMPACT Broome Street Academy Charter High School (BSA) is seeking to hire a Head of School beginning in July 2026. BSA serves NYC students who are the most at risk and face significant barriers to graduation. By design, 50% of the seats for upcoming 9th graders are set aside for students who are homeless, in foster care, or have otherwise had experience with the child welfare system. Given the extensive needs of BSA’s students, the model – which is unique among New York City charter schools – goes above and beyond the classroom through a formalized partnership with The Door, one of the country’s premier youth development organizations. BSA is housed within The Door so that students have facilitated and consistent access to The Door’s complete range of programming on site including: reproductive and primary healthcare and education, mental health counseling and crisis assistance, legal advice and representation, tutoring and homework help, college preparation services, job training and placement, supportive housing, sports and recreational activities, arts, and nutritious meals – all for free, completely confidential, and under one roof. We intentionally maintain small class sizes and offer integrated co-teaching in most classes to provide additional academic support for students. GOVERNANCE The Head of School will report to BSA’s CEO and Board of Trustees. The Board and CEO establish policy for BSA in accordance with its by-laws and consistent with the terms of its charter. The Charter School Institute of the State University of New York serves as BSA’s authorizer. THE POSITION The Head of School will administer the 9th-12th grade curriculum and will be responsible for promoting the mission of the school as well as overseeing the daily operations in partnership with staff. They will be responsible for oversight and development of all academic programs and curricula; the faculty and staff hiring; professional development, compensation, and all other personnel matters; and student recruitment, enrollment, attendance, and discipline. This includes programming, data sharing and analysis, and cultural alignment., • Skillfully build and manage the budget, which is approximately $6 million, and oversee daily operations of the school, including safety, student support, behavior management, and finances., • Work with the CEO to externally message BSA via social media and traditional media platforms. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS The ideal candidate will have prior experience in school leadership – as a head of school, principal, or division head at a charter, traditional public, or independent school – and teaching experience. The Head of School should possess a strong understanding of the use of academic data to inform and improve student outcomes and an awareness of developments in the broad worlds of education and pedagogy. An ideal candidate will also have a track record of achieving significant school improvement and in working with and leading student and community populations similar to that of BSA. A Bachelor’s degree is required. Job Description Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission-aligned Social Worker to join the Social Services department at Promise Academy Charter School. The Social Worker will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life. Harlem Children’s Zone/Promise Academy Charter Schools Social Work Team comprises 8 Social Workers, each assigned to one of the Promise Academy Schools. The team works closely with the Principals, Administration, and other Harlem Children’s Zone entities to ensure optimal student success. The Social Work team members work to provide support and aim to help preserve families through strength-based approaches. The extent of involvement by a social worker varies and is based on many factors, including, but not limited to, the needs of the child and/or family. Team members provide school-based counseling services, assessments, crisis intervention, case management, advocacy, and referral services. The Director of Social Services supervises the team and is under the HCZ Wellness and Social Services umbrella. We are currently seeking a Certified Licensed Clinical School Social Worker (LCSW) and/or Certified Licensed School Social Worker (LMSW) for our students. Requirements • Master's of Social Work Degree, • LMSW or LCSW licensing, • One or more years of relevant experience is required, • NYS School Social Work Certificate required Who you are • MSW degree. LMSW or LCSW licensing with a minimum of one year of relevant experience is required, and an NYS School Social Work Certificate is required, • Passionate and mission-driven. Having a “Whatever It Takes” attitude is a must!, • Documented track record of personal and professional success, • Extensive knowledge of child development and interventions, • Experience in therapeutic modalities related to children and families in traditionally underserved communities, including assessment and treatment of trauma, • Experience working within a school environment or extensive work experience with children in the high-school age group, • Must have strong organizational and communication skills, verbal and written, • Ability to work with parents, students, faculty, support staff, external government representatives, as well as school community groups, • Patience, social intelligence, love of learning, self-control, love, gratitude, and a sense of humorWhat you'll do, • Lead the school’s efforts in ensuring that students are emotionally supported through strength-based, solution-focused modalities, • Provide individual and group counseling to address academic, personal, and/or interpersonal challenges, as per Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and/or as needed, • Work collaboratively with Principals, Administration, Special Education Team, Teachers, Staff, and HCZ entities to help develop solutions to student, group, and school-wide issues, • Coordinate services with external providers and link families to appropriate community resources as needed, • Crisis intervention, referrals, and case management services to students and families, • Conduct home and community visits as needed to assess student and family needs, • Complete documentation, progress notes, and reports as required by the state, local, and federal mandates and ethical responsibilities, • Ability to plan, organize, and implement meetings/workshops involving a variety of topics and personnel, • Serve as liaison on child welfare issues and share expertise with the school team, • Attend regular staff meetings and professional development workshops, • Provide workshops to school staff and parents on a variety of areas relating to child social/emotional development, • Participates in grade-level, school-wide, and agency events, • Is highly visible and present during school/after-school hours, • Perform other duties as assigned Schedule • Monday-Friday 8 AM - 4 PM, • 1 mandatory rotating late-day weekly 10 AM - 6 PM As a member of the Harlem Children's Zone team, you will join a supportive and inclusive community dedicated to helping children, families — and our staff — thrive. EFFC recognizes that all children in care have experienced some level of trauma, that their needs may change over time, and that their strengths must be supported so they can reach their full potential. POSITION SUMMARY: The WWK Recruiter maintains a caseload of a minimum of 12 active youth and engages in child-center focused recruitment on the youths’ behalf. The WWK Recruiter builds a relationship with the youth on their caseload and actively pursues locating a permanent resource family for the youth. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Bachelors in social work or related field, • 1 year of related work experience in serving children and/or families, • Knowledge of and/or training in child development stages, • Knowledge of and/or training in family dynamics, • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook, • Ability to engage with clients, • A valid driver’s license is strongly preferred, • Understanding and willingness to commit to the agency’s Mission, core values, Sanctuary Commitments and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB).
