Job DescriptionJOB SUMMARY RMS is looking for a Welder – Engineered Products to join our team. The Welder – Engineered Products will perform a variety of welding and fabrication operations on rotating equipment components and assemblies to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, and quality standards. This position supports production activities through MIG, TIG, and stick welding of carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy materials used in steam turbines, axial compressors, hot gas expanders, power turbines, screw compressors, and related turbomachinery. The Welder shall promote safe work practices, proper use of equipment, and adherence to quality requirements in all phases of fabrication, repair, and assembly while supporting production demands during first shift operations. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS • Able to pass WPQ on in-house procedures and maintains continuity log for audit purposes., • Responsible to fabricate centrifugal compressor impellers via “slot” and traditional fillet welding., • Knowledgeable in visual inspection of welds and familiar with grinding / upgrade techniques, • Performs pre-work including setup of positioners, thermal blankets, induction heaters, etc., • Tracks usage of consumables including burrs, torch tips, temp sticks, etc., • Familiar with repair on stationary and rotating components in turbomachinery such as compressors, turbines, pumps, etc., • Expert with manual GTAW welding; familiarity with automatic welding a plus, • Ability to SAW using our in-house automatic machine., • Able to inspect and record measurements of component parts to customer, OEM and industry standard specifications using a variety of precision measuring instruments, tools and gages., • Notifies Quality and Production Leadership in the event of non-conformity and drives for speedy resolution., • Maintain a safe working environment and a commitment to safety excellence., • Responsible for understanding and driving adherence to safety policy, procedures, and instructions., • Maintains a clean and organized work area., • High School Diploma / GED from an accredited school or institution., • Minimum of 5 years' experience related to compressor or turbine rotors / components., • Sub Arc Welding The position requires proficiency in the following areas: • Safety-first mindset with self and coworkers, • Familiarity rotating equipment including centrifugal compressors; steam turbines; axial compressors; hot gas expanders; power turbines, screw compressors; etc., • Excellent organization skills., • Expert in use of precision measuring equipment (mic, caliper, etc.), • Ability to work overtime, weekends and holidays, as required., • Ability to work in an environment of constant pushing, pulling, lifting, stretching, bending and other physical activities., • Ability and willingness to be in the shop environment a minimum of 8 hours per day, primarily standing and sitting, as required., • Ability and willingness to work around and use large propane / acetylene torches., • Ability to operate small lifts, pallet jacks and other lifting equipment., • Strong oral and written communication skills., • The position may be based in RMS’s Pasadena, TX facility., • This is a full-time position, with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week. Additional hours, including evenings or weekends may be required based on company and project needs., • This position can be required to participate in the company random or customer specific drug and alcohol screening and background check., • Ability to act professionally under stressful situations., • Able to understand, read, write and speak English., • Authorized to work in the United States, • Must have valid driver's license, • Ability and willingness to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.(with assistance), walk, climb, reach, kneel, crawl, and balance., • Must be able to use hands for assembling and tool usage, • While performing the duties of this position the employee will be required to stand, sit, bend, and walk for significant portions of the shift While performing the duties of this position, the employee may work / enter a shop or field service environment with exposure to moving mechanical parts. While the work area may be described as generally clean, safe, and "not loud", there will be machining operations that generate moderate noise.
