Description SUMMER GROUP LEADERS - $16.25 PER HOUR/Full-Time 35 HOURS PER WEEK We are excited about the 2024 Summer Rising Program which will operate during the months of July and August. Phipps Neighborhoods is seeking candidates to be part of this great summer program for the elementary and middle school students we provide programming to in the Bronx. Join our team and be part of a great summer experience for our summer program participants! Phipps Neighborhoods helps children, youth, and families in low-income communities rise above poverty. We work in South Bronx neighborhoods where we can address the greatest barriers to lasting success through education and career programs, and access to community resources. Position Summary: The Summer Group Leader is responsible for working closely with groups of elementary or middle school students, helping them to achieve their best in both academic and non-academic settings. Summer Group Leaders develop, implement, and participate in a range of activities geared towards making the students excited about being in an academically and culturally enriching environment. Summer Group Leaders will help young people to develop strategies for meeting their goals and improving their academic skills. Duties and Responsibilities: Provide supervision and ensure the safety of program participants at all times, including during trips. Engage students in a wide range of project-based learning activities. Maintain accurate participant attendance, activity and sign-out records. Develop lesson plans and curriculum in accordance with program schedule, programmatic themes, objectives, and outcomes. Document student progress. Establish a comfortable learning environment and implement clear, consistent age-appropriate expectations and rules. Model appropriate child development practices. Uphold program policies and procedures and ensure proper use of supplies and materials. Maintain classroom cleanliness and organization. Maintain ongoing open communication with the teachers. Attend staff meetings, professional development workshops and program events. Communicate with all staff, parents, children and community members in a polite and respectful manner so as to represent the program in a professional way. Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director Qualifications: The candidate must be at least 18 years of age and have a High School Diploma or GED. Young Judaea Sprout Brooklyn Day Camp, located in Red Hook, is a Hebrew dual-language camp for children entering Pre-K through 5th grade. No previous Hebrew experience is necessary to be part of the Sprout Brooklyn community. Sprout Brooklyn is a place where children from a wide spectrum of backgrounds join together to create a joyful, diverse community built on Jewish values, a connection to Israel and the Hebrew language. All of our Activity Specialists build their own informal Jewish education curricula based on Jewish values and creating a connection to Israel. They teach daily 30 minute lessons to campers entering Pre-K through entering 5th grade. Sprout Brooklyn values staff that are positive and flexible team players who are excited to spend the summer with young campers and staff. The ideal candidate is excited about camp life and feels comfortable wearing multiple hats and will never say that a task “isn’t their job”. Responsibilities Work with the Program Director to create weekly lesson plans Create and execute fun, age-appropriate activities Engage campers and help them develop new skills Run 30 minute lessons daily with groups of 12-14 campers Incorporate Jewish values, Hebrew and/or Israel education into activities whenever possible (assistance is provided if you do not have experience in this area) We are currently seeking specialists in the following areas: Music, Sports, Robotics, Yoga, Art, Dance, Hebrew, Martial Arts, Nature, Swim/Lifeguarding Requirements At least 18 years old Experience working with children ages 3-10 At least 2 years’ experience teaching specialty activity to children Experience attending or working at a summer camp (preferred, not required) Enthusiasm and the willingness to be silly Hebrew fluency is a plus (preferred, not required) Camp runs Monday - Friday from June 24 – August 16 with a week of staff training from June 17, 18, 20 & 23. The camp day is 8:30am – 4:00pm. Approximately 30 hours of pre-camp curriculum development.
