Job DescriptionINSPECTOR, MECHANICAL LOCATION: LOS ANGELES, CA Position Description Summary The Mechanical Inspector will support LAWA's Quality Assurance & Construction InspectionDivision across multiple projects within LAWA's Capital Improvement Program. *Candidates must possess a current ICC certification as Commercial Mechanical Inspector toapply. *Preferred candidates are those with additional ICC certifications as Electrical and PlumbingInspector. *Successfully hired Candidates must provide Proof of Cal-OSHA 30 hr. training within thelast 4 years, prior to assignment. *Successfully hired candidates must have LAWA SIDA badge prior to official start. *Must be able to work any assigned shift - day, swing, or night - as required to meet thecontractor's construction schedule. Professional Experience Level/Minimum Qualifications • Mechanical inspection staff shall have 3 years or more experience performingmechanical inspections for Building Construction., • Mechanical inspection staff possess a thorough knowledge of the materials andmethods used in the installation of plumbing, heating, air conditioning andrefrigeration installations., • Current ICC Certification as a Commercial Mechanical, • Proof of Cal-OSHA 30 hr. training within the last 4 years, • Fall protection and harness training., • Confined Space Entry TrainingHardware/Software Knowledge, • Knowledge of Project Management Information Software used forinspection/document control (i.e., Microsoft Office, Outlook, Xcel, Word, PM Web,Adobe Pro, Bluebeam, etc.)., • Computer proficiency to review and utilize electronic equipment for contractdocuments efficiently, including change orders, submittals, RFIs, and other inspectiondocuments, with minimal supervision., • Education/Training, • High school diploma (or equivalent)Preferred Qualifications and Experience:, • Additional Current ICC certifications as Electrical and Plumbing Inspector, • NFPA 70E standards training within the last 3 years is preferred., • Training & knowledge of NFPA -70, 70E, & 72 is preferred., • Experience at the journey-level as an electrician, with a focus on the installation andrepair of electrical systems in public works, institutional, commercial, or industrialsettings., • Plumbing experience (journeyman/master level) with progression into inspection., • Experience inspecting mechanical systems of large-scale commercial, industrial orpublic buildings., • Experience overseeing and ensuring compliance with building codes and regulationson significant construction projects., • Involvement in complex projects that require coordination with multiple stakeholders,including contractors, engineers, and city officials., • Expertise in identifying and addressing deficiencies, ensuring that all aspects ofconstruction meet the required standards., • Must be open to learning the prescriptive items required by the agency., • A strong understanding of diverse code requirements., • Excellent communication and time management skills.Essential Job Duties, • Inspects the construction of a wide variety of airport improvements and utilitiesprojects to ensure conformance to plans, specifications, contracts, permits,environmental documents, agreements for work, and may provide constructioninspection support., • Conduct comprehensive daily inspections of mechanical, electrical and plumbingsystems across building and terminal construction projects, ensuring compliance withapplicable codes and project specifications, review and interpret constructiondocuments including blueprints and shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and changeorders., • Demonstrates strong proficiency in preparing comprehensive daily inspection reportsthat clearly document the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and HOW of all observedconstruction activities, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and accountability in trackingprogress and identifying issues, deficiencies, or safety concerns in a timely manner., • Verify contractor compliance with local and national electrical codes (e.g., NEC, NFPA70, 70E, 72), mechanical and plumbing codes, and LAWA-specific standards., • Track and document time-and-material work, field changes, and job quantities, • Assist in validating contractor progress payment requests based on an approvedschedule of values., • Support special inspections and testing activities, coordinating with engineers,contractors, and third-party agencies as needed.Perform inspections of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) installations including, butnot limited to:, • Domestic Water and Sewage Systems, • Venting, fire sprinklers, and gas piping, • HVAC systems (air handlers, chillers, boilers, ductwork), • Smoke Control Systems, • Mechanical ventilation and exhaust, • Fire and life safety integration (e.g. smoke dampers), • Mechanical and plumbing shutdowns, lockout / tagout procedures, • Commissioning and balancing reports, • Underground utilities and duct banks, • High-voltage switchgear and electrical panels, • Conduit racks, conductors, and grounding systems, • Interior and exterior lighting systems, • Fire life safety systems including smoke/heat detectors and FM-200 suppressionsystems, • Electrical shutdowns, lockout/tagout procedures, and breaker coordinationInspect IT infrastructure installations such as:, • Low-voltage systems (voice/data, security, access control), • Door card readers, security cameras, and public address (P.A.) systems, • Communication cabling and equipment roomsElement-Specific Requirements/Notes, • May assume other duties as required/needed., • May be required to work various shifts, including day, swing, and night., • Shall be open to work modified schedules, including nights and weekends, as dictatedby the contractors' work activities and accelerated project schedules., • Availability to work overtime as required to meet project deadlines and ensure
