Job DescriptionAdvanced Environmental TechnicianPosition Summary The Advanced Environmental Technician is responsible for managing TTU’s wastewater systems, air discharge permits, and environmental compliance programs to ensure adherence to EPA, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory requirements. Specifically ensuring the company is in compliance with the DEQ NPDES wastewater discharge permit requirements with outfall discharge to Arata Creek. This position works closely with the Safety Coordinator and cross-functional teams to ensure environmental systems, equipment, and processes are operated safely and in compliance with all applicable standards and permits. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Monitor air and wastewater discharges and maintain accurate sampling records, reports, and compliance documentation., • Manage the facility’s Simple Air Contaminant Discharge Permit and associated compliance activities., • Ensure compliance with the DEQ NPDES wastewater discharge permit, including outfall discharge monitoring to Arata Creek., • Maintain and report CR2Z and MTS hazardous chemical inventories to the Oregon State Fire Marshal., • Track and monitor outfall totalizer performance and coordinate repairs as needed to maintain permit compliance., • Collect samples and perform analyses for effluent toxicity testing as required by the NPDES permit., • Maintain replenishment schedules and coordinate MTS chemical orders with Dow., • Monitor hazardous waste handling, wastewater discharge, and chemical spill response activities., • Write, review, and revise Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and work instructions in accordance with ISO 9001 standards., • Calibrate and maintain environmental testing and sampling equipment to ensure EPA laboratory compliance., • Monitor city water and well water systems for integrity and document/report corrective actions as needed., • Collect and record pH sampling data for SIC scrubbers, Mix, and GWT systems., • Monitor cooling tower chemical tanks for integrity and report/correct deficiencies., • Collect air and wastewater system data and maintain accurate incident tracking and reporting logs., • Forecast, track, and report MTS usage, inventory, and shipments., • Monitor, collect, and record HOBO temperature data related to Arata Creek environmental status., • Conduct routine sample testing of gas scrubbers and wastewater treatment systems., • Provide and/or assist with training related to calibration procedures and environmental system processes., • Support Process Engineering, Quality Assurance, Maintenance, and SIC teams as needed., • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and laboratories for environmental projects and analytical services., • Prepare and submit annual greenhouse gas (GHG) reporting for Japan., • Perform maintenance and calibration of Wastewater Treatment System (WTS) sensors., • Collect and report well water usage data to the Oregon Water Resources Department (OWRD)., • Manage hazardous waste documentation, including manifests and disposal records., • Complete required environmental reports and surveys, including:, • ECO Survey (Oregon employee commute/emissions survey), • ATEI Report (hazardous chemicals reporting for the State of Oregon), • Conduct internal audits of environmental programs, standards, permits, and regulatory compliance systems., • Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications, Education, and ExperienceRequired Qualifications, • High school diploma or equivalent., • Strong background or aptitude in science, math, environmental systems, or engineering-related work., • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint., • Ability to maintain accurate records, perform sampling and testing, and manage compliance documentation.Preferred Qualifications, • Prior experience in environmental compliance, wastewater systems, hazardous waste management, industrial safety, or related technical work., • Certifications in:, • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), • Confined Space Entry, • Strong collaborative communication and interpersonal skills., • Commitment to following and supporting policies, procedures, and process improvements., • Professional, respectful, and positive communication with internal departments and external partners., • Willingness to receive and apply constructive feedback., • Ability to remain solution-oriented and work through conflict professionally., • Timely and accurate sampling, testing, and data collection, • Accurate and complete regulatory reporting and recordkeeping, • Consistent, integrity-driven compliance with permit requirements and environmental regulations, • Reliable monitoring and maintenance of environmental systems and equipment While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be: • Frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and industrial machinery, • Exposed to moderate noise levels in office and operational areas, with some machine shop environments producing higher noise levels, • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift up to 25 lbs.Why Join Toyo Tanso USA?, • Medical, Dental, Vision, HSA, FSA & Life Insurance, • Employer paid STD, LTD, & Life Insurance!, • 401(K) Retirement Plan with employer match and fully vested!, • 3 weeks PTO + 9 paid holidays!, • Tuition Reimbursement!, • Quarterly Bonus Program!, • Opportunities for career growth!
