Job Description Job Title: Machine Operator Job Description This role operates and monitors automated chemical processing systems to support the mixing, processing, and manufacturing of chemicals. You will work primarily in a control room using computer systems to route, transport, and mix chemicals through piping and storage systems, while also performing hands-on tasks on the production floor as needed. The position combines computer-based process control, quality testing, and safe material handling in an industrial manufacturing environment. Responsibilities • Assist with the mixing, processing, and manufacturing of chemicals according to established procedures and safety standards., • Unload chemicals from tanker trucks and rail cars by connecting hoses and pumping materials into designated storage tanks., • Fill mixing tanks by routing base chemicals through piping systems from storage tanks to mixing vessels using automated and manual controls., • Create new chemical products by operating mixing tanks and following precise formulas and instructions., • Transport, route, and mix chemicals using a computer system to control automated production and piping systems., • Monitor the transportation, routing, and mixing of chemicals from a control room, ensuring proper flow, levels, and process parameters., • Manually add chemicals to mixing tanks when required to complete batches or adjust formulations., • Test batch samples for quality to ensure products meet specifications and document results as needed., • Operate from a desk behind a computer system for a large portion of the shift to run and supervise automated production systems., • Wear a respirator when working in close proximity to chemicals, particularly during specific tasks that require additional protection., • Follow all safety, environmental, and operational procedures while working in both the control room and on the production floor., • Train on day shift hours and adapt to schedule changes, including extended shifts when needed to meet project deadlines. Essential Skills • Previous experience working in an industrial environment., • Experience in general labor, production, manufacturing, or machine operation., • Material handling and machine operation in a heavy industrial setting., • Ability to operate industrial equipment such as forklifts., • Computer skills to operate, monitor, and control automated production and piping systems., • Capability and willingness to wear a respirator for portions of the shift when working near chemicals., • Ability to work the regular 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday–Friday shift and to train on a 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday–Friday schedule., • Willingness to work extended 12-hour shifts (2:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.) when required to meet project deadlines., • Comfort working in both office-like control room settings and industrial production floor environments. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Previous experience working with chemicals in a manufacturing or processing environment (preferred but not required)., • Heavy industrial manufacturing experience from environments such as paper mills, foundries, or similar facilities., • Technical machine operation experience in industrial settings., • Strong attention to detail when following formulas, operating equipment, and performing quality checks., • Ability to follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment appropriately. Work Environment This role is based within an industrial chemical manufacturing, processing, and application facility. Most of your time will be spent in a control room with an office-style setting, using computers to control the flow of chemicals through piping systems and mixing tanks. You will also work on the production floor as needed in a more traditional industrial environment, where you may be in closer proximity to chemicals and will wear a respirator for certain tasks. The regular schedule is Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., with training conducted on a 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday–Friday schedule. During busy periods, you may work 12-hour shifts from 2:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. The environment combines desk-based computer work with hands-on industrial operations, emphasizing safe handling of chemicals and adherence to safety procedures. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $24.63 - $24.63/hr.
