American Traveler is seeking a travel nurse RN PCU - Progressive Care Unit for a travel nursing job in Kansas City, Missouri. Job Description & Requirements • Specialty: PCU - Progressive Care Unit, • Discipline: RN, • Start Date: 06/08/2026, • Duration: 13 weeks, • 36 hours per week, • Shift: 12 hours, nights, • Employment Type: Travel Assignment Overview • Shift: Nights, 3x12hrs, • Hours: 36 hrs/wk, • Start Date: Jun 8, 2026, • Length: 13 weeks, • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in an acute care hospital setting, • Patient ratio of 1:5, • Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15), • 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period, in a combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday shifts, • Regular floating between departments, units, and facilities may be required, • Cardiac monitoring responsibilities include interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, on-unit and remote telemetry monitoring, and use of Rapid Response Teams, • Cardiovascular case experience includes post-cardiac, angiogram, post-MI, pre/post cardiac cath, and pre/post cardiac surgery patients, • IV therapy skills utilized include blood product administration, central line care, PICC line management, peripheral line care, phlebotomy, and starting IVs, • Medication management includes heparin protocols, cardiac drips (with and without titration), PCA, and procedural sedation administration, • Respiratory support includes chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, nasal cannula, oxygen face masks, non-invasive airway management, and tracheostomy management, • Additional clinical responsibilities include CVA care, total joint replacements, peripheral nerve block catheters, surgical drains, wound care/wound VAC, IV insulin protocols, feeding tube care, pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure care, and isolation precautionsRequirements, • Active MO or Compact RN license (both Kansas and Missouri licenses, or a Compact license, must be in hand at time of consideration, as floating between facilities may be required), • Current certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS, • Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/specialty experience required, • Must have at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months, with no gap in employment greater than 90 days in the past year, • Previous charge RN and teaching hospital experience preferred, • 2 professional references required: one must be at the supervisor level or above, and one may be a charge RN; all references must be from individuals who have worked with the candidate within the past year, • SSN required for consideration, • No pending licenses accepted — licensure must be in hand at time of considerationAdditional Information, • First-time travelers are welcome to apply, • Candidates residing within a 50-mile radius of the facility are considered local and are not eligible for this position, • RTO is capped at 7 days for the duration of the contract, • Holiday shifts and charge RN assignments may be required as needed, • Block scheduling is not available for this position, • Travel partners are not accepted for this assignment, • Pre-employment drug screening is required; a diluted or positive result that cannot be cleared may result in cancellation and a 6-month waiting period before reapplying With thousands of travel nursing and allied jobs nationwide, our attentive and approachable recruiters find positions that align perfectly with your career aspirations and personal requirements.
