Job DescriptionSalary: $28-$40/hr DOE Starting Arts is looking for several part time specialized teaching artists in music and theatre and for the 2025-2026 school year. Teaching assignments will vary through the school year and teaching artists will be utilized for during school and after school assignments (including theatre productions). Teaching Credentials are NOT required, but teaching credentialed candidates are welcome. Job DescriptionSalary: DOE Job Overview: Starting Arts runs about 45 shows a year - 75% of them are Cafeteria shows in elementary-middle school cafeterias (simplified set and tech elements), 25% of them are In-House productions that are performed in professional theater venues (intense set and tech design). The Deck Crew member is responsible for supporting the technical needs of theatrical productions, ensuring that all equipment and systems function smoothly during rehearsals and performances. This position involves working closely with youth performers, directors, designers, and other production staff as a member of the deck crew. Assistance in Lighting Set Up/Operation, Sound Set Up/Operation, and set Load In & Load Out may be required. Starting Arts productions are held in a variety of venues, from cafeterias to large theaters. Key Responsibilities: Technical Setup: • Assist with the setup and strike of scenery, lighting, sound, and props before and after performances. This includes pre-setting scenic elements and prep of wireless microphones., • Maintain smooth transitions between scenes, handling cues for set changes, lights, sound, and other technical elements., • Report any potential problems to the Supervisor on site, usually the Technical Director, Production Manager, or the Director of the production., • When needed, assist with the arrangement of technical needs, including lighting, sound, scenic elements during the move into the theatre., • When needed, assist with the removal and loading of technical needs back onto the truck and into Starting Arts storage. Job DescriptionThe Ticket Services Representative is responsible for providing excellent customer service, completing in-person and phone ticket sales for all four of our theaters (Center for Performing Arts, San Jose Civic, California Theatre, and Montgomery Theater), as well as handling will call distribution. RESPONSIBILITIES • Effectively and politely communicates with patrons, explains box office policies and provides general seating information and assistance to clients and patrons via email, phone and in person., • Replies to daily customer service emails and queries, • Processes ticket orders and subscriber exchanges by phone and in person at the box office, • Process both cash and credit card payments, and make correct change and reconcile sales at the end of each shift., • Assists in creating price sheets and seating charts for specific events, • Assists patrons who require ADA/wheelchair accessible seating, • Completes special tasks as assigned by TSJ Ticketing management, such as processing complimentary or promotional ticket orders, filing event folders and general organization in the Box Office., • Prepares daily ticket orders for mailing, • Assists with transporting bulk items (i.e. ticket stock, computer components, sandwich board signs) from the office to the theater as needed., • Assists in training new staff on the multiple ticketing systems REQUIREMENTS • High school diploma or equivalent, • Previous customer service experience, • Strong cash handling skills and be able to count back change, • Proficient and comfortable utilizing computer software, • Previous experience in using automated ticketing systems is a plus, • A friendly and professional disposition, • Excellent communication skills, • Ability to multi-task and to resolve issues independently, • Some background in sales, retail and customer service is preferred, • Must be able to stand for periods of at least 4 hours and to work outdoors

Starting Arts is a youth theatre company, so you will mostly be loading in and out of schools and potentially interacting with children. The Load In/Load Out/Carpenter Crew member is responsible for moving technical equipment, set, costumes, and props in and out of a venue, and constructing the set when required. This position involves working closely with the Production Manager and Technical Director. Key Responsibilities: Load-in and Load-out Help: • Move items from our storage into the truck and vice versa., • Assist with the arrangement of technical needs, including lighting, sound, scenic elements during the move into the theatre., • For Cafeteria shows:, • Put together the set pieces (jacks on flats, flats on skids, etc.), • Build a stage extension if needed (putting legs on platforms, clamping/screwing platforms together), • Assemble pipe and drape as needed to create wings, curtains, exits, etc., • For In-House shows:, • Skills:, • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues in real time., • Knowledge of theater safety protocols and equipment handling., • Knowledge of construction tools and building practices., • Ability to drive a 16 or 20 truck (no special license/insurance required, just bravery!)., • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a strong attention to detail., • The position requires the ability to work in dimly lit and noisy environments., • Must be comfortable working at heights and in small or confined spaces., • May be required to stand for long periods of time, sit, crouch, kneel and crawl., • Ability to work as part of a team and independently when needed.
