Position Summary: Our client, a leader in precision metal casting and machining, is seeking a highly skilled Machine Shop Manager to oversee daily operations of its CNC and manual machining departments. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and improving machining workflows to ensure safety, quality, productivity, and on-time delivery. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical expertise and the ability to train, motivate, and develop machinists and support staff. Key Responsibilities: Operations & Production Management • Oversee day-to-day operations of CNC and manual machine shop departments., • Plan, schedule, and prioritize machining jobs to meet production deadlines., • Ensure efficient setup, operation, and maintenance of machining equipment, including CNC mills/lathes, manual lathes, grinders, and related machinery., • Monitor workflow and adjust staffing/resources to meet customer and internal product release requirements., • Partner with Engineering, Quality, and Foundry operations to resolve production issues. Leadership & Staff Development • Supervise machinists, programmers, and support personnel; assign tasks and manage performance., • Train employees on machining processes, safety procedures, and quality standards., • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement., • Participate in recruiting, hiring, and onboarding of new team members. Quality & Continuous Improvement • Ensure machining meets dimensional, surface, and tolerance specifications., • Review blueprints, CAD models, and process sheets to ensure accurate manufacturing., • Drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions for quality issues., • Implement process improvements, tooling upgrades, and lean manufacturing practices., • Work with Quality Assurance to maintain documentation and compliance with ISO and industry standards. Safety & Compliance • Enforce OSHA and company safety policies., • Identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions., • Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of equipment and tools. Equipment & Resource Management • Coordinate preventive maintenance and repair of machines., • Manage tooling, fixtures, consumables, and supplies to ensure availability., • Recommend capital equipment purchases to support capacity and technology improvements. Qualifications: Required • 5 to 10+ years of machining experience, including CNC programming and operation., • 3 to 5+ years of supervisory or management experience in a machine shop environment., • Strong understanding of GD&T, machining tolerances, and blueprint reading., • Experience machining aluminum, steel, and specialty alloys., • Ability to troubleshoot machining, programming, and tooling issues., • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Preferred • Experience in a casting or foundry-related machining environment., • Knowledge of Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar CAM software., • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, 5S, or continuous improvement methodologies., • Experience working in ISO-certified environments. Work Environment & Physical Requirements • Manufacturing shop setting with exposure to machinery, noise, and metalworking materials., • Ability to stand, walk, and move between departments for extended periods., • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. as needed.
