Job DescriptionRebuild what powers communities At Custom Truck One Source (CTOS), we keep utilities, telecom, construction, forestry, oil, and rail moving. From our Cicero, NY location (6177 South Bay Road), our field technicians support customers throughout Greater Syracuse—meeting them where their equipment is. The mission Own the uptime of specialized utility equipment—bucket trucks, digger derricks, truck-mounted cranes, hi-rail units, and more—by bringing expert diesel, hydraulic, and electrical know-how directly to the job site. How you’ll make an impact • Diagnose and repair in the field and at the service center, following dealer/factory standards., • Execute LMI (Load Moment Indicator) and CAN bus (Controller Area Network) diagnostics and fixes., • Interpret service manuals, blueprints, and work orders; use a laptop for OEM procedures and testing., • Verify completed work and perform road tests to ensure performance and safety., • Accurately complete inspection reports, repair orders, timecards, and parts/cost entries., • Tag and manage warranty and core returns., • Communicate status and recommendations to the Service Manager and customers without delay., • Adhere to CTOS safety practices and environmental requirements, including hazardous waste protocols., • Travel within the region with the flexibility to go beyond normal coverage; overnight travel as needed. Tools of the trade (we provide), • A CTOS utility service vehicle equipped with a welder, 4-ton crane, company computer, and phone., • Continuous development through CTOS and factory-sponsored training, including our STEP Technician Training. Your background, • High School diploma or GED., • Approximately five years of relevant shop and field experience on heavy/utility equipment., • Valid driver’s license (CDL Class B a bonus)., • Owns a complete set of mechanic’s tools., • Proficient documenting work in software and meeting schedules. Preferred capabilities, • Electrical and hydraulic systems, welding, and reading schematics/blueprints., • Experience with diagnostic platforms such as Quick Serve and DTNA., • Awareness of DOT, ANSI, and dielectric testing practices. What success looks like, • DOT medical qualified; safe and professional driving., • Expertise in heavy equipment repair and diesel engine systems (including light-duty diesel)., • Electrical schematics, electrical diagnostics/repair, and vehicle electronic controls proficiency., • Strong grasp of engine performance/drivability, brakes, and suspension systems., • Customer-first service and communication.
