Job DescriptionDescription: Objective A Technician is involved with the installation, programming, testing, field service, and training of Engineered Fire Alarm Systems. Roles and Responsibilities • Review job information on new jobs., • Confirm that there is a clear understanding of the scope of work., • Relay any changes in the scope of work to the Project Manager, • Confirm who we are contracted through., • Review the location of critical equipment (control panels, annunciators, etc.), • Obtain a copy of the Specs and read it thoroughly., • Confirm location of critical equipment (inquire w/PM if necessary)., • Relay any inconsistences with GC Drawings back to Project Manager, • Confirm any variations in design to what is being installed in the field. (Device relocation), • Confirm all necessary specification and code compliance requirements (hardhat, steel toe, etc.), parking restrictions, working hours, etc., • Check in with contractor daily, when on-site., • Layout preliminary schedule of installation showing rough-in, wire pull, device installation, start-up, and final test. Verify with PM allowed hours for each phase., • Report any major hold-ups to the PM and how it will affect the schedule., • Attend jobsite meetings when applicable., • Get critical contact names & phone numbers such as electrical foreman, general contractor, etc., • Ensure that the PM has obtained the permit, where required., • Requisition project materials for the job., • Plan Ahead, • Estimate and request materials for installation, from the PM. You are planning a week in advance., • Be prepared to justify all additional equipment, or material., • A change to the scope of work will be a Change Order. Notify your PM first. And DO NOT proceed until approval from, AND ONLY from your PM., • Supervise and/or install system in a cost effective but quality manner., • Maintain current as-built drawings, these are to be updated daily., • All tie-ins of external equipment (i.e. AHU shutdown, Kitchen hood system, Door Access) will be performed only when and if that specified contractor is with you., • Perform programming of system as needed, verifying that system will meet all code and specification requirements. Or request a programmer from your PM., • Perform 100% pre-test of all installed equipment and their desired function., • AHU shutdown, does it shut down the AHU, NO, test not passed., • Perform preliminary test with GC, if required., • Perform final test with AHJ and/or customer., • Certify system as required by the State of Texas and local AHJ., • Perform customer training of the system as necessary., • Assist PM’s with tracking all in-progress jobs weekly., • Assist PM with tracking labor and equipment costs for job., • Coordinate, with PM, returned equipment for credit from manufacturer., • Coordinate, with PM, all equipment returns, from change orders., • Keep jobsite tools and equipment secure., • Maintain an accurate tool list for all tools placed in your possession., • Maintain a clean vehicle at ALL times., • Inform your PM when maintenance is needed such as tire rotation, oil changes, repairs, etc., • Maintain good relationships with various contractors and customers, • Bring job in at under budget., • Working knowledge of general industrial controls., • Knowledgeable of industry manufacturers, distributors, and products., • Be proficient in the use of computer programs: Windows & Microsoft., • Excellent Organization skills, • Proficient in the understanding of NFPA 72, 101, the various building codes, and other applicable industry codes., • State of Texas Fire Alarm Technician’s License, • Fire Alarm License -Ability to pass a background and drug screening
