UXR Career Change to Sales Location: Remote | United States Flexible Schedule | Performance-Based Compensation | Career Transition Opportunity Turn Your UXR Skills Into a Client-Focused Sales Career Are you a UX researcher, UX designer, customer researcher, service designer, or other user-centered professional considering a career change? Have you considered how well your skills translate into the world of sales? Your ability to understand people may be more valuable in sales than you realize. At White Fence Life Partners, we're looking for people who know how to listen, ask thoughtful questions, uncover what matters to people, and develop solutions around their needs. This isn't about convincing someone to buy something they don't need. It's about learning how to understand a person's situation, identify their goals and concerns, uncover needs they may not have articulated themselves, and help them evaluate financial protection solutions that fit their circumstances. If you've spent your career understanding users, you're already familiar with the foundation of consultative sales. We're looking for people who want to apply those skills in a new environment while developing expertise in financial services, client relationships, and business development. What You'll Do As a Sales Consultant and former UXR, you'll use your user-centered approach to understand prospective clients and help them make informed decisions about life insurance and financial protection. Your work will include: • Conducting client discovery conversations to understand people's circumstances, priorities, goals, concerns, and motivations., • Asking effective questions rather than making assumptions about what a client needs., • Uncovering stated and unstated needs — including needs and wants clients may not initially recognize or know how to articulate., • Identifying pain points, gaps, concerns, and unmet needs that may affect a client's financial protection., • Listening for the difference between what someone says they want and what they may actually need., • Exploring both known needs and unknown needs through thoughtful conversation and discovery., • Synthesizing information gathered from conversations into a clear understanding of the client's situation., • Presenting relevant life insurance and financial protection solutions based on the client's goals and circumstances., • Educating clients so they can make informed decisions rather than simply presenting a product., • Building long-term professional relationships through thoughtful follow-up and continued communication., • Managing your client pipeline and maintaining accurate records., • Participating in ongoing training in sales, financial products, communication, and leadership., • Obtaining and maintaining the required state life insurance license, if not already licensed. Why UX Researchers & Designers Can Thrive Here Great sales conversations have so much in common with good user research. A successful researcher doesn't begin with the assumption that they already know the answer. They investigate. The same mindset applies here. You'll learn to apply your UX Research skills to: Listen → Question → Discover → Synthesize → Identify Needs → Recommend → Follow Up with potential clients. Your existing experience may already include skills such as: • User interviews, • Qualitative research, • Stakeholder interviews, • Empathy and active listening, • Identifying pain points, • Understanding motivations and behaviors, • Discovering unmet needs, • Asking open-ended questions, • Recognizing patterns across conversations, • Synthesizing qualitative information, • Translating insights into recommendations, • Presenting findings, • Building trust with participants and stakeholders, • Communicating complex information clearly The difference is the context. Instead of researching how people interact with a product or service, you'll be researching the person — their goals, concerns, priorities, financial situation, and definition of what they want to protect. Then you'll use what you learn to recommend potential solutions. The Biggest Shift: From Finding Insights to Acting on Them In UX research, discovering an unmet need is valuable. In a client-facing role, you have the opportunity to do something with that insight immediately. You may discover that a prospective client is primarily concerned about protecting their children, replacing income, covering a mortgage, planning for the future, or ensuring their family has financial stability. You may also uncover concerns they hadn't previously considered. That process of moving from discovery → insight → recommendation → action is at the heart of consultative sales. Who We're Looking For We're particularly interested in individuals with backgrounds in: • UX research, • UX/UI design, • Product design, • Service design, • Customer experience, • User research, • Market research, • Design research, • Human-centered design, • Customer success, • Customer service, • Consulting, • Communications, • Psychology or behavioral research, • Business development, • Other people-centered professions You don't need a traditional sales background to be successful. And the potential here is uncapped. Your work ethic can help you be extremely successful. We're looking for people who are: • Strong communicators and active listeners, • Curious about what motivates people, • Comfortable asking questions and conducting conversations, • Naturally interested in understanding problems before proposing solutions, • Organized and capable of managing multiple client relationships, • Self-motivated and comfortable working independently, • Coachable and interested in developing new professional skills, • Ethical and professional in their interactions, • Interested in building a career in financial services, consulting, sales, or entrepreneurship Applicants from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply. What We Provide • Comprehensive onboarding and professional sales training, • One-on-one coaching and ongoing mentorship, • Training in consultative selling and client discovery, • Assistance obtaining your life insurance license, if needed, • Flexible scheduling, • Remote work, • Performance-based compensation, including commissions and incentive opportunities, in accordance with applicable laws and licensing requirements, • Opportunities for career advancement and leadership development A Different Kind of Sales Career If the word "sales" makes you think of scripts, cold pitches, and trying to persuade people to buy something, this role may look different from what you expect. Our approach is centered on discovery and consultation. The objective is to understand the person first. • What are they trying to accomplish?, • What is their pain that can be alleviated with the products we offer?, • What are they concerned about?, • What do they value?, • What problems are they trying to solve?, • What needs have they already identified?, • What needs haven't they considered yet?, • What would happen if those needs went unmet? Those are fundamentally human-centered questions. Your job is to listen carefully, understand the answers, and help clients evaluate appropriate financial protection solutions. Start Your Next Chapter in Sales You may have entered UX because you enjoy understanding people. You may have discovered through research that the most interesting part of your work wasn't the interface - it was the person using it. You may simply be ready for a career where your communication, research, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills can lead somewhere new. If you're interested in taking your user-centered skill set into a client-facing sales career, we'd like to talk with you. White Fence Life Partners provides training, mentorship, and a path to develop professional skills in financial services, consultative sales, and leadership. Apply Now and explore what your research skills can do in a new career. White Fence Life Partners is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
