Job Description Position: Crew Member/Carpenter helper Program: COI Weatherization Assistance Program Hours: Part time - temporary Work Location: In person, 2 Rock St., Philmont, NY Wages & Benefits: $20.00 per hour Status: Non-exempt Reports to: Weatherization Program Director Position Summary: The person in this position will help install energy conservation as well as health and safety measures in homes and apartments throughout Columbia County, NY. The Weatherization Assistance Program has created an industry–producing new jobs and technologies–all while helping the most vulnerable families in America. COI provides the tools and the training you will need to make a real difference in our community and our country. Essential Education & Experience • High School diploma or Equivalent with six months related experience or training is preferred, OR, • 4 years of documented related experience, OR, • Equivalent combination of education and experience, AND, • Basic knowledge or aptitude in home construction Essential skills, abilities and characteristics: • Able to work independently and on a team of 2 – 3 coworkers, • Add, subtract, multiply and divide units of measure, especially in utilizing a tape measure - and communicate measures verbally and in writing, • Basic computer knowledge and usage skills, • Communicate and relate positively with the public and the diverse population of clients served, • General knowledge of housing construction and vocabulary pertaining to construction, • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form, • Read and interpret documents such as work orders, procedure manuals, operating and maintenance instructions., • Annual physical examination, • Following an offer of employment, all candidates are subject to an individualized background check Examples of Duties (Illustrative Only): • Drive agency truck, box truck, or truck with trailer in a safe manner to assigned work sites from garage or office and return, • Install insulation in confined or small areas such as attics, crawlspaces, walls, or knee walls using blown in or batt insulation., • Install weatherization work measures on site in in customer’s homes, • Load and/or unload work materials to/from warehouse to/from work truck on a daily basis, • Maintain confidentiality regarding agency, customer & business information, • Must be able to complete work assigned by following accepted safe work practices., • Occasionally assist with unloading trucks loads of 30 lb. bags of cellulose insulation, windows, doors into warehouse, • Other duties as assigned by Weatherization Director, Crew supervisor, or Executive Director, • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, bend, kneel and/or crawl, • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, • Speech and hearing to communicate in person and by telephone, • Vision to read handwritten and printed materials and a computer screen, • Regularly required to work in confined spaces and/or dirty areas, such as crawlspaces and attics, • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, • This job requires performing assigned job duties both indoors and outdoors in a complete range of weather conditions, • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, • Work environment also requires working in confined and/or dirty areas, such as crawlspaces and attics All COI staff work together to achieve individual, family, community, and agency goals.
