Job Description We are a boutique law firm specialising in debt recovery, landlord and tenant and dispute resolution. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced legal assistant/caseworker for maternity cover with potential to stay on after. You will be a friendly, hard-working, trustworthy, punctual, reliable, self-motivated, well-organised, tech-savvy, and ambitious legal assistant/caseworker to assist our firm's Principal Solicitor/Managing Director and run some undisputed cases independently. The candidate should be able to type and offer general secretarial administrative and paralegal support as and when required. The caseload will include debt recovery, landlord & tenant, and general dispute resolution. Role · Handling simple undisputed debt recovery and landlord & tenant cases under supervision. · Assisting with disputed cases as directed. · Diary & post management (including scanning incoming post, uploading to our case management system & taking post to the Post Office, handling petty cash). · Preparing pdf & hardcopy bundles and assisting to prepare for hearings/trials. · Legal research, gathering evidence, checking accuracy, checking enclosures and assisting to progress cases. · Drafting legal documents, e.g., s21/s8 notices, directions/PTR questionnaires, and cost schedules, and assisting in creating precedent workflows. · Typing dictations and collating relevant enclosures. · Assisting counsel at court hearings and trials by taking notes. · File opening, client verification & AML/POCA checks/searches. · Readying materials for trial proceedings including documents, evidence and verifying factual information. · Communicating with clients and fee earners with simple requests. Communicating with the court and opponents as instructed. · Drafting basic correspondence. · Reporting to manager/weekly meetings. · Time recording. · Working to strict deadlines. · Assisting with accounting and billing. · Monitoring and ordering stationery. · Article & blog writing.
