With a structured Career Paths Framework, you’ll have a clear understanding of the pathway for advancing your career. \nAbout the role\n We have a brand‑new opportunity for a Principal Sustainability Consultant, with an energy focus, to join our South West Business Unit and Sustainability team based. The role can be based in our Bristol or Cardiff offices and will be part of our broader Sustainability discipline which has a presence in every Hoare Lea office across the country. \n In this key and varied role, you can expect to: \n\n • Act as Discipline (sustainability) Project Lead for medium to large scale projects at all RIBA stages including the delivery of documents to support outline and detailed planning submissions.\n, • Act as Workstream Lead, taking ownership on delivery, supporting senior team members in project delivery of large scale projects.\n, • Develop and coordinate resource and project plans where acting as Discipline Project Lead and support Discipline Project Lead in the development of resource plans where acting as Workstream Lead.\n, • Lead workshops with the client and design team and communicate information in a clear and concise manner.\n, • Effectively delegate, manage and review work undertaken by others.\n, • Be responsible for undertaking and supporting others on a range of detailed analyses, including, but not limited to:\n, • Energy compliance calculations such as Building Regulations Part L and energy performance certificates.\n, • Advanced building performance modelling such as overheating / thermal comfort assessment, operational energy assessment.\n, • Energy strategies in support of planning (outline and detailed) and design development.\n, • Whilst the above will be the core responsibilities of the role, this does not preclude involvement in other workstreams within the discipline, i.e. whole life carbon, environmental assessment.\n, • Support in‑house Technical Excellence communities in advancing the firm’s knowledge to allow us to stay at the cutting edge of knowledge in our industry.\n, • Energy and building performance consultancy including\n, • Advanced simulation capabilities including\n, • Building Regulations Part L assessments using Elmhurst and IES\n, • Energy Performance Certificates\n, • Building Regulations Part O assessment\n, • Thermal comfort assessments\n, • Operational energy assessment including CIBSE TM54, ApacheSIM and ApacheHVAC\n, • Demonstrable experience in project leadership, including resource planning\n, • Demonstrable experience in training/mentoring junior team members\n, • Delivery of successful planning applications and experience of local authority collaboration. Experience in the local market and London market would be particularly advantageous.\n, • NABERS UK design for performance\n, • Parametric building/energy performance analysis (e.g. Rhino)\n, • Developing fee proposals\n\nAbout you\n\n, • Experience working within sustainability consultancy, you will be looking for a new challenge within a practice at the very forefront of our field.\n, • Qualified and recognised in industry preferably working towards Chartered status.
