About Codat Codat is an advisory intelligence solution purpose-built for modern commercial banking. Through rich, specialized data, forward-looking insights, and integrated workflows, Codat empowers banking teams to deepen their relationships, grow their revenue, and simplify their day-to-day work. Founded in 2017 and backed by JPMorgan, PayPal, Amex, Plaid, and Shopify, Codat has successfully powered over 350,000 connections to business customers’ financial systems — and is trusted by industry leaders to turn scattered information into actionable, strategic advantages in real time, every time. We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data and Insights team. You'll be hands-on every day, writing production code, building and maintaining data pipelines, and shipping features that turn raw data into intelligence our clients can act on. You'll work across the full project lifecycle, from understanding the problem through to delivery, and you'll care as much about code quality and operational reliability as you do about getting things shipped. This is also a technical leadership role. As a senior member of the team, you'll set and lead the technical direction of our Insights platform. This is a visible position within engineering and across the wider business, so you'll explain your thinking clearly, share the reasoning behind it, and bring people with you. You'll do all of this while staying close to the code: it'll suit you if you want to keep building hands-on, rather than move into pure architecture or people management in the near term. Write production code every day, most likely in Python, building and maintaining the data pipelines that power our Insights products. Own the full lifecycle of your projects, from understanding the data domain through to pragmatic design, shipping, and keeping things running reliably in production. Set and lead the technical direction of the Insights platform, and communicate it openly across engineering and the wider business, so product and commercial colleagues understand the choices you are making and why. Help raise engineering standards across the team and improve technical quality through strong engineering practice, including testing, observability, data quality checks, and clean, maintainable code. Make AI your default way of working, and find opportunities to apply it across our products and pipelines where it delivers real value, from research and prototyping through to more operational uses such as agents that help diagnose and fix pipeline issues. Help lay the foundations for our emerging MCP and semantic layer, so our data becomes something both people and AI systems can query and reason over. Strong software engineering fundamentals: you write well-tested, production-ready Python and care about maintainability, observability, and operational excellence. A track record of building data pipelines and production systems from the ground up, rather than mainly configuring managed services or wiring off-the-shelf tools together. You can describe complex logic you've written and the engineering problems you had to solve. Solid experience with modern data engineering tools and patterns, with real depth in several of SQL, Spark, Databricks/Delta Lake, orchestration tools (Dagster, Airflow, Temporal), and dbt. Comfort with modern deployment practices: CI/CD, containerisation (Docker), and cloud-based infrastructure. It's a bonus if you've shaped these for a team, not only worked within them. A product mindset: you want to understand the business domain and use that understanding to shape what gets built, not only how. You're comfortable pushing back or proposing a different approach when your read of the data and the domain calls for it. Strong communication skills: you can explain and build support for your ideas with peers, managers, and non-technical stakeholders, and you're comfortable holding a visible technical position and bringing people with you. AI as a default part of how you work, with evidence of real efficiency gains and creative use beyond code generation, such as research, building domain knowledge, or prototyping. Nice to have: exposure to the building blocks of AI-ready data, such as semantic layers, ontologies, or text-to-SQL, plus any experience applying AI operationally within data platforms or pipelines. This won't be your main focus, but it will help as our platform grows to support an MCP. Please note, this role is remote - UK only and we cannot provide sponsorship for this position. Anyone not based in the UK or that requires sponsorship to work in the UK will not be considered at this time.

Ilir Sela started Slice with the belief that local pizzerias deserve all of the advantages of major franchises without compromising their independence. Starting with his family’s pizzerias, we now empower over tens of thousands of restaurants with the technology, services, and collective power that owners need to better serve their digitally minded customers and build lasting businesses. We’re growing and adding more talent to help fulfil this valuable mission. That’s where you come in. This position is open to applicants across all of the UK on a remote basis, with the physical office located in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The Challenge to Solve How do mom-and-pop pizzerias survive and win in a world of big-budget pizza chains and third-party apps? This is the challenge you’ll help solve at Slice. Local pizzerias already outperform the big chains in offline sales, yet are outsold 20-to-1 online – a gap we’re determined to close. We operate at the intersection of high stakes and local community: our mission is to level the playing field for small businesses by providing them with the technology and capabilities that rival those of the biggest players. When a shop partners with Slice, our goal is that it feels “as if they’ve just hired 1,000 people” to support their business. As an engineer on our team, you’ll seek out bold, asymmetric opportunities to create these outsized impacts for our restaurant partners and the millions of customers they serve. It’s not just about writing code – it’s about writing the future of local pizza. What You'll Do As a Staff Software Developer on our Services team, you will immerse yourself in our ambitious mission and take on a wide range of responsibilities to drive customer impact. Specifically, you will: • Build innovative features & services: Design, code, and launch new backend features that help our restaurant partners operate more efficiently and deliver exceptional, seamless experiences to their customers. Your work will directly enhance real-world interactions between shops and pizza lovers every day., • Identify game-changing opportunities: Constantly look for asymmetric opportunities where a small technical change can deliver disproportionate value. You’ll use your creativity and entrepreneurial mindset to find 10x solutions that delight users and give our partners an edge., • Own projects end-to-end: Take ownership of initiatives from concept through production. You’ll work closely with product, design, and other teams to define solutions, execute rapidly, and iterate based on feedback. When you see a problem, you don’t wait - you tackle it., • Use the best tools for the job: While our primary stack is Python (Flask), we embrace any technology that delivers value. You might rewrite a microservice from Go to Python, craft a script in Ruby, or leverage a new cloud service – whatever it takes to solve the task at hand in a scalable way., • Collaborate in a small, agile team: Work alongside a tight-knit team of 5 to 8 backend engineers (across the US, UK, and Europe) who are as passionate about the mission as you are. Together, you will review code, brainstorm ideas, and push each other to raise the bar while maintaining a fun, supportive atmosphere., • Ensure quality and performance at scale: Employ best practices in coding, testing, monitoring, and DevOps to ensure our services are reliable and performant. You build it, you own it - from writing unit tests to fine-tuning logging and alerting, you’ll make sure your code runs smoothly in production. The Winning Recipe We’re looking for bold, founder-like engineers who aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo and build products that make a real difference. If you’re an unconventional thinker and a highly productive doer, you’ll feel right at home. The ideal candidate has: • Owner’s mindset: You think like a founder. You take initiative, own problems end-to-end, and move with urgency to deliver results. Obstacles energize you, and you thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous startup environment where your decisions drive real impact., • Proven builder: You have solid experience crafting scalable backend systems in Python (Flask) and working with databases and cloud services. You’re comfortable diving into monitoring and logging tools to keep systems healthy. More importantly, you’re technology-agnostic – you quickly pick up new languages or frameworks (Go, Ruby, or whatever is needed) to solve problems effectively., • Remote-ready collaborator: You excel at working on a distributed team and communicating asynchronously. You’re comfortable collaborating with teammates across different time zones and backgrounds, and you know how to stay connected and communicative in a remote work setting., • Product & customer focus: You care deeply about the why behind your code. You can clearly express opinions on product direction and design, always keeping the end-customer and restaurant owner in mind. At the same time, you respect others’ perspectives and believe the best ideas can come from anywhere., • Innovative problem solver: You love finding creative solutions to hard problems. Words like “impossible” or “uncharted” fuel your curiosity. You seek out those asymmetric win scenarios and aren’t afraid to experiment, adapt, and iterate to achieve a better outcome for users. If you’ve ever dreamed of building something big, scrappy, and impactful – and you have the skills to back it up – we want to meet you! The Extras Working at Slice comes with a comprehensive set of benefits, but here are some of the unexpected highlights: • Access to medical, dental, and vision plans, • Flexible working hours, • Generous time off policies, • £200 per annum employee wellbeing allowance, • Market leading maternity and paternity schemes The Hiring Process You’ll find a summary of your expected interview process below and we’ll stick to this as closely as possible, but please note this may be subject to change. • Application, • 30 minute introductory meeting, • 90 minute Live Coding Interview & 60 minute Technical Interview, • 45 minute Hiring Manager meeting, • Offer! Pizza brings people together. Slice is no different. We’re an Equal Opportunity Employer and embrace a diversity of backgrounds, cultures, and perspectives. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, colour, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, religion, disability, national origin, protected veteran status, age, or any other status protected by applicable national, federal, state, or local law. About The RoleRole Overview As Lead Engineer you will provide senior technical leadership on our Umbraco platforms, working alongside engineers, QA analysts and project managers to deliver high quality work on time and to budget. We are looking for genuine Umbraco expertise rather than broad CMS familiarity: someone who knows the platform properly, has taken sites through major version upgrades, understands Umbraco Cloud and its constraints, and can make architectural decisions that hold up over the life of a long-term retainer. You will join an existing Umbraco practice and work as part of a small group of technical leads, sharing responsibility for standards, architectural direction and the technical health of the platforms we look after. Our Umbraco clients are charities, non-profits and membership organisations, and the platforms we build for them carry donation journeys, supporter data and services people rely on. Much of the work is continuous improvement on established platforms rather than greenfield build, which means the technical decisions you make will be lived with for years by the teams that follow you. You will lead architecture and technical planning on the projects you are responsible for, uphold quality through code review and standards, and develop the engineers around you. This role does not carry line management or resourcing responsibility, that sits with the Engineering Manager. Your focus is technical leadership and delivery quality. Key responsibilities You provide senior technical leadership on the Umbraco platforms you are responsible for You are a senior technical authority on Umbraco, setting and upholding standards for how we build, extend and maintain client platforms. You make architectural decisions appropriate to the client's budget, team and long-term maintenance capability, not to the most interesting technical option available. You plan and lead major Umbraco version upgrades, assessing package and integration compatibility before committing to a path. You maintain a clear view of the technical health of the platforms you support, and surface risk before it becomes a problem. You make sensible decisions about hosting, environments and deployment on Umbraco Cloud and equivalent platforms. You contribute to shared Umbraco standards and practice across the business, working with other technical leads rather than in isolation. You define the technical approach for solutions and plan their delivery You consult with principal engineers and contribute to high level architecture during the Foundations phase of a project, specifying which technologies will be used and how they connect together. You provide broad plans for technical delivery, identifying the main themes, their approximate sizes, levels of risk and the order they will be delivered in. You produce estimates that state clearly what is in scope, what is out of scope and what assumptions the numbers rest on. You manage client expectations about the process of agile delivery and what they should expect to see at the end of each sprint. You lead the delivery of high quality software on time and to budget You ensure your project team members are fully engaged and participating in all aspects of the project during evolutionary development. You ensure the ceremonies of your agile project happen at the right time with the right people present, including stand-ups, backlog refinement, timebox planning, code reviews and retrospectives. You ensure your team delivers the work they have committed to by the agreed deadline. You uphold quality through code review, and hold the line on standards when delivery pressure argues against it. You apply particular rigour to anything touching donation journeys, payment integrations or supporter data, where the cost of a defect is measured in lost income and lost trust. You ensure your team collaborates well at all times, that problems are discussed early and raised to the project lead and client as necessary. You manage the technical and support relationships with your clients You are the senior technical point of contact for the clients you support, able to explain technical decisions and constraints to non-technical stakeholders clearly. You lead the technical response when things go wrong on your accounts, establishing what has happened and directing the fix. You ensure your clients are supported by the appropriate team members, working with engineering managers so the right profile of engineer is available. You ensure the smooth operation of support boards, unblocking technical team members and resolving issues. You provide the technical continuity that long-term retainer clients depend on, holding the context that would otherwise be lost between people. You support the growth of the engineering team and promote quality software engineering You develop the engineers around you, particularly those growing their Umbraco capability, through pairing, review and structured mentorship. You show passion for keeping on top of current tools, standards and trends, including the Umbraco roadmap and AI-assisted engineering practice. You actively contribute ideas for the growth of the engineering team. You collaborate with principal engineers and the engineering leadership to deliver on departmental goals. You produce relevant content on software engineering and agile delivery to raise the profile of the department. About YouProfessional knowledge and experience Deep Umbraco expertise. Extensive hands-on experience building, extending and maintaining Umbraco platforms in production, including recent major versions. This is the defining requirement of the role. Strong .NET and C# capability.Confident writing clean, maintainable, object-oriented code and reviewing the work of others to the same standard. Upgrade and migration experience. Proven experience planning and delivering major Umbraco version upgrades, including assessing package compatibility and managing risk on live sites. Long-term platform ownership. Experience maintaining and evolving established platforms over years rather than delivering and moving on, with an understanding of how technical debt accumulates and how to manage it down. Integrations and APIs. Proficiency designing and implementing APIs and integrations within complex digital ecosystems, including CRM, payment and marketing platforms. Database and data management. Strong expertise in database design and efficient querying in the context of web applications. Cloud and deployment. Practical experience with cloud platforms and managed hosting, particularly Azure and Umbraco Cloud, and with CI/CD pipelines and environment management. Front-end capability. Adept at building responsive, accessible interfaces, with a component-based approach that supports consistency and reuse. Accessibility.Deep commitment to and experience of building to WCAG standards, which matters particularly for the diverse audiences our charity clients serve. Security. Proven ability to apply security best practice throughout the development lifecycle, safeguarding supporter and donor data. Technical leadership.Proven leadership in agile delivery, with a focus on quality outcomes and collaborative teams. Excels at mentorship and technical direction without line management responsibility. Client-facing confidence. Exceptional problem solving and the ability to manage technical client relationships directly. Technical skills Essential Deep, demonstrable Umbraco expertise across recent major versions, including content modelling, custom development and package ecosystem Strong .NET and C#, with a solid grasp of modern .NET practice Umbraco Cloud, or equivalent managed hosting experience, including environment strategy and deployment workflow Major version upgrade planning and delivery on live platforms API design and consumption, REST and GraphQL, including third-party integrations SQL Server and efficient data querying in a web application context Modern front-end development, including component-based approaches and responsive UI Accessibility standards and practice, WCAG 2.2 and above Security by design, particularly around personal data and payment journeys Git, branching strategy, code review and CI/CD pipelines Desirable Azure services, particularly Functions, App Services and supporting infrastructure Headless or decoupled Umbraco, and API-first delivery Modern front-end frameworks such as React or Next.js Experience with donation or payment platforms Working knowledge of other CMS platforms, particularly Drupal and Wordpress AI-assisted engineering practice or agentic tooling Experience in the charity, non-profit or membership sector Behaviours You are someone the team turns to on Umbraco questions, and you answer in a way that leaves them more capable rather than more dependent. You manage challenging situations effectively and defuse issues before they escalate. You guide and support other team members, particularly those less experienced, and are helpful in onboarding new starters. You proactively seek and give timely, actionable feedback that improves the contribution of those around you. You escalate problems that have a wider scope than your team, and support them through to a conclusion. You work confidently and persist when faced with uncertainty, pulling in support from around the company where needed. You promote good practice and current trends in your discipline, deepening the knowledge of those around you. You lead teams and clients confidently and hold relationships with important stakeholders. You influence the strategic direction of projects and are comfortable on large, complex work. You are a trusted problem solver, capable of leading the resolution of incidents relating to your area of expertise. You hold the line on quality when delivery pressure argues against it, and can explain why in terms a client understands.
