Appointment Type Permanent Full Time/Part Time Full-time Specialism Structural Engineering Hours 37.5 Location Cambridge Working Practice Hybrid Main Purpose of the Job Based in our Cambridge office you will be part of a hardworking and growing team of Engineer/Consultants specialising in Structural Engineering projects around the UK. The office is based in an excellent location within the city centre, making the office very accessible. As a Senior Structural Design Engineer, you’ll play a key role in delivering high‑quality engineering solutions across a variety of multidisciplinary projects, while supporting the development of emerging talent within the team. What You’ll Be Doing As a Senior Structural Design Engineer, you’ll contribute to and lead on a range of complex building‑structure projects. You’ll work collaboratively with clients, consultants, architects, and internal teams while ensuring designs meet the highest technical, safety, and regulatory standards. Technical Leadership • Carry out, check, and review structural engineering calculations in line with UK design codes, standards, and safety regulations., • Prepare high‑quality technical reports, design proposals, and supporting documentation., • Liaise with clients, architects, and third parties to gather requirements and ensure exceptional service delivery., • Conduct structural surveys and produce detailed structural appraisal reports., • Undertake site visits to monitor construction progress and verify compliance with design specifications., • Support Project Leads with programme management, budget control, and resource planning. People Development • Supervise and delegate tasks to junior colleagues., • Provide guidance, mentoring, and technical support to graduate and early‑career engineers. What We’re Looking For Qualifications • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent)., • Chartered status with ICE or IStructE is preferred but not essential. Experience • Significant experience in the analysis and design of building structures., • Proven track record in reinforced concrete and steel frame design., • Previous experience at senior engineer level., • Experience mentoring or supporting junior engineers (preferred)., • Experience in timber, masonry, modular, or other structure types (preferred)., • Experience preparing fee proposals and managing project budgets (preferred). Technical Skills • Proficiency with finite element analysis and associated structural software., • Familiarity with design tools such as TEDDS, Concrete Centre Spreadsheets., • Experience with Tekla Structural Designer, SCIA, Robot, RAM, or ETABS., • Competence in AutoCAD and/or Revit., • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
