Job summaryAAC Interview Date: 12th October 2026The holder is expected to be able to be competent to independently provide diagnostic cellular pathology reporting service as part of a team respectfully and in cooperation with consultant cellular pathology colleagues and associated staff.This post has arisen to service increasing workload. The post holder/s will join a team of 7existing Consultant Cellular Pathologists. The department is ISO 15189:2022 accredited. The department receives approximately 30,000 histology requests (42,000 specimens), 2000 Non-gynae cases. The department ceased to participate in cytological cervical screening in December 2019 in line with national initiatives. There have not been hospital autopsies for two years. Coroner's autopsies are performed by the Corners pathologist. Work is allocated according to Royal college workload units determined by available direct clinical care sessions in individuals agreed team job plans.The department has moved to a partially subspecialist model and work is allocated to individuals according to their required number of daily units and a pre-circulated rota. This is derived from two sources: firstly, specialist work, and secondly this is supplemented by general histopathological reporting material according to remaining point capacity.Main duties of the jobThe specialist areas in the department include: Renal Pathology, Dermatopathology, Uropathology, Respiratory Pathology, head and neck pathology, Gynaecological pathology, Non -Gynae Cytology. It is anticipated that the post holder will support and have or be prepared to develop an interest in Dermatopathology, Gynaecology and Gastro Enterology and Uropathology and provide support for Respiratory pathology. Support for Non-gynae Cytopathology would also be welcome but other areas of interest will be considered. It is also expected that the post holder will participate in the service and training requirements of the Cervical Screening Programme for the reporting of Histology specimens. The partial subspecialist model is better suited to those with wide experience in histopathology. Following restructuring the main laboratory and processing facilities are at Epsom General Hospital. A satellite lab supporting the renal service, frozen sections, autopsy service, and cytopathology service is located at St Helier. Reporting to the Head of Travel Underwriting for European Hub, you will be responsible for leading portfolio remediation efforts across the global travel insurance book, with an immediate focus on the United Kingdom. This role drives technical underwriting excellence through deep-dive performance analysis at both client and portfolio level, identifying root causes of deterioration and implementing corrective action to ensure rate adequacy and sustainability. The role partners closely with Pricing, Actuarial, Claims, and Distribution to execute targeted remediation strategies aligned with the Travel Line of Business strategy. Ensures all underwriting actions are technically sound, commercially relevant, and fully compliant with Allianz and AzP standards. • Lead and drive remediation efforts across global travel portfolios, with an initial and primary focus on the United Kingdom market., • Conduct deep-dive analysis on individual client and portfolio performance to identify specific causes of deterioration, including rate inadequacy, rating factor drift, and shifts in risk mix., • Collaborate closely with the Pricing team to ensure tariff and non-tariff books are performing in line with expectations; recommend and implement targeted adjustments where deviations are observed., • Work hand-in-hand with the Portfolio Monitoring and Actuarial teams to identify underperforming segments, define remediation plans, and provide accurate performance data into central portfolio tools., • Ensure underwriting actions are aligned with Allianz standards and AzP Underwriting Guidelines, with a strong focus on technical soundness and commercial impact., • Support the annual planning process through robust commercial margin analysis, forecasting outcomes of remedial actions, and highlighting residual risks., • Maintain transparency on all portfolio changes and initiatives to support reserve adequacy and proper technical provisioning., • Represent underwriting in cross-functional remediation squads, working closely with Product, Distribution, and Claims to address root causes of underperformance and drive sustainable profitability., • Communicate findings and proposed actions clearly to senior leadership, with focus on data-driven rationale and outcome-focused proposals., • 8+ years of professional experience in insurance data analysis, pricing, or performance monitoring., • Degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Econometrics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related field., • Being Qualified actuary (e.g., FIA, FSA, or equivalent) or Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA or equivalent) represents an advantage., • Strong hands-on experience with MS SQL (or equivalent database technologies)., • Experience using insurance performance monitoring tools., • Proven expertise in data analytics and reporting tools, especially Power BI., • Advanced MS Excel skills and strong overall MS Office proficiency., • Experience in insurance pricing tools (e.g. Radar) represents an advantage., • Fluent English, both written and spoken.
