About the role: Reporting to the Group HSE Director, and as a key member of the DPS Senior Leadership Team a dotted line into the Drax Power Station Plant Director, you’ll take accountability for developing, leading and delivering the HSE strategy for all site activities, teams and plant areas, ensuring that the highest level of safety standards, health and wellbeing, environmental, technical competence, governance and compliance are developed and applied. As the subject matter expert, you’ll provide HSE & Governance advice to both management and colleagues on HSE & Governance risk activities on our operational sites as we continue to our journey to be a UK leader in dispatchable, renewable generation. Key responsibilities include: • Act as senior and strategic point of contact for regulators, auditors, Excom and Board engagement, visits and external stakeholders., • Develop and mentor HSE professionals and operational leaders, building long term capabilities. Drive our OneSafeDrax Zero Harm vision, and act as key contributor to the development of the culture, integrated HSE management system, and to assess and assess training requirements and ensure all personnel are adequately trained in environmental and health & safety matters. Importantly, you’ll have proven ability to influence at executive and board level, balancing operational realities with rigorous risk controls. As a skilled people leader, you’ll have previously managed complex teams within a unionised environment, coupled with strong team working and influencing skills and can showcase the ability to communicate at all levels of an organisation. Your qualifications, skills and experience should include: Successful experience as a Project Safety Manager and as supervisor or an engineer within a construction environment, qualification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g. NEBOSH Diploma) or related discipline or appropriate proven knowledge and experience (minimum of 3 years). Able to communicate at all levels within the project organisation. Able to deliver any health and safety training as instructed by the head of health and safety. Able to act as a team leader. Thorough knowledge of OHSAS 45001 standards. Chartered membership of IOSH. Capable of leading accident investigations. Business acumen with full understanding of the commercial impact of decisions. Main Responsibilities: Manage all EHS systems and processes, training and supporting all departments To own, maintain and develop policies in line with legislative requirements and best practice To ensure compliance with all relevant ISO standards management systems (ISO14001 and ISO50001) as well as any new ISO standards deemed appropriate Ensure the site is compliant with legislation, maintaining a working knowledge of all relevent environmental legislation Maintain all relevent environmental records in accordance with the legislation and management system requirements and support the energy management record keeping Support departments creating and updating environmental risk assessments standard operating procedures (SOPs) To investigate major environmental incidents, reporting breaches of the environmental permit to the environment agency, and advise on improvements to reduce similar incidents Support departments with incident investigations within their areas Manage the waste disposal compliance aspects of the site and ensure records are kept Advise on specialist areas such as (but not limited to) environmental permitting, statutory testing/inspection requirements, convent limits and improvement conditions (IC’s) To drive the environmental culture and good practices, monitoring and reviewing staff behaviors, challenging poor environmental behaviors / practices Undertake Internal audits and assist with external audits to demonstrate compliance with relevant ISO Standards To create and manage good relationships with regulatory bodies in ensuring ongoing legal compliance (HSE, Environmental Agency, Local Council, etc.) Facilitate/chair/Attend Environmental, Health and Safety meetings throughout the business as well as attend relevant meetings with EHS topic or require support Responsible for ensuring that environmental training requirements are understood and met, supporting delivery via internal or external methods, including toolbox talks Assist with conducting EHS inductions Ensure compliance with all construction related regulations supporting project teams Undertake other reasonable duties as requested Qualifications & Experience: NEBOSH Environmental Diploma or equivalent Knowledge and understanding of environmental legislation and application in practical terms Ability to communicate and influence effectively at all levels, driving all environmental aspects Detailed understanding of environmental permitting, consent and compliance requirements Experience in conducting a variety of environmental impact assessments Experience with ISO(phone number removed), leading external audits and conducting internal audits Good IT skills competent with Microsoft software Strong organisational skills with the ability to plan, prioritise, and respond to issues quickly Desirable: Experience in a GMP, or HACCP-compliant manufacturing environment Familiarity with energy efficiency initiatives and sustainability practices ISO50001 (energy management) experience Experience managing borehole applications/licenses Working Conditions: Based on-site at a manufacturing facility Split between office based and site/plant-based activities Working within an EHS team consisting of Health and Safety Advisers/Administrator Benefits Company pension Life insurance 25 days holiday plus bank holidays Private medical insurance Length of Service Bonus If you would like to apply for the role of Environmental Advisor then please email your CV to or call Deb on (phone number removed) Closing date is 19.2.2026 Please note this could change subject to suitable applications.
