We're supporting a respected school in the Preston area that's looking for an interim Finance Manager to join them for 6-9 months and bring some stability and structure to their finance function during a period of transition. They now need a qualified accountant who can step in quickly, take ownership of the accounts, and support the Bursar in keeping everything compliant and running smoothly. The Role • Reporting to the Bursar, you'll manage a small team (2-3 staff covering purchase ledger and bank reconciliations) and take responsibility for:, • Monthly management and statutory accounts, • Daily and weekly cashflow management, • Overseeing invoicing, credit control, and parental fee queries, • VAT compliance and Sage reporting, • Providing structure, oversight, and support across the finance function, • It's a hands-on role that needs someone experienced, practical, and ready to hit the ground running. This is a key role for an experienced QS who can take full ownership of the commercial function and ensure the project is delivered to budget, quality and programme. Key Responsibilities Lead all commercial duties on the £30M scheme from procurement through to final accounts. Develop, maintain and present cost plans, CVRs, forecasts and monthly commercial reports. Manage full subcontract procurement cycles: tendering, scope reviews, negotiation and contract award. Oversee subcontractor applications, valuations, variations and payments. Manage change control and ensure accurate commercial documentation. Carry out regular site measurements and progress assessments. Identify commercial risk, opportunity and value-engineering options. Experience Required 7+ years experience as a Quantity Surveyor in construction. Proven experience commercially leading medium-to-large new build industrial projects, ideally £20M£40M+. Strong knowledge of industrial builds, including steel frame structures, groundworks, civils packages and M&E coordination. Demonstrated ability to manage projects of significant value autonomously, taking ownership of all QS duties. Excellent working knowledge o f JCT Design & Build or similar forms of contract. Strong background in procurement, cost control, reporting and final account negotiation. Confident communicator capable of managing subcontractors, clients and stakeholders.
