Independent Champion for Victims and Survivors of Crime in London Are you passionate about justice? Ready to make a real difference for victims and survivors of crime across London? The safety of Londoners is the Mayor of London’s first priority, and he has extensive responsibilities including oversight of the Metropolitan Police Service, setting the priorities for policing and community safety in London and commissioning services to support victims of crime. He delivers those responsibilities through the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC). The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) is seeking a passionate and independent Victims’ Commissioner to be a strong advocate for victims and survivors of crime across London. This vital role ensures that the voices of victims are heard and prioritised throughout the criminal justice system, driving improvements in how victims experience justice and support. As Victims’ Commissioner, you will identify, report, and campaign for meaningful changes to victim services and criminal justice outcomes in London. You will work closely with government, policing bodies, victim support organisations, and the media to influence policy and promote integrated, victim-centred approaches across agencies. You will advise and support the Deputy Mayor in overseeing the Metropolitan Police Service and other criminal justice agencies. This includes membership of key boards such as the London Policing Board and the London Criminal Justice Board, where you will challenge and encourage continuous improvements in services for victims and witnesses. Building and nurturing strong relationships across the criminal justice system will be essential, as will gathering and representing victims’ feedback and experiences to ensure their needs shape future strategies. You will also lead advocacy efforts using digital and traditional reporting to highlight the impact and importance of the Commissioner’s work. This role, which is a special appointment by the Mayor, demands strategic and operational leadership, working across MOPAC and the Greater London Authority to galvanise support and promote equality, inclusivity, and the elimination of unlawful discrimination within the justice system. Keeping up-to-date with relevant national and local developments is key to effective influence and leadership. About you The ideal candidate will have demonstrative experience working within or alongside the criminal justice system, government, or victim support organisations, demonstrating a deep understanding of the challenges victims face. The postholder will visit MPS and other external partners’ offices on a regular basis alongside working from GLA/MOPAC offices and from home as and when appropriate. Specifically you will have: • Proven ability to lead advocacy for victims., • Demonstrated ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders, including local and central government, justice agencies, victim support sectors, and grassroots organisations., • Proven political awareness and the ability to operate effectively in a complex political environment., • Experience operating at board or strategic level, with the ability to advise senior political figures such as the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and other key stakeholders., • Very strong communication, influencing, and negotiation skills, with a track record of bringing diverse stakeholders together to advance shared objectives., • Strong evidence-based capabilities., • Expertise and credibility on victims’ issues, with experience working closely with both victims and criminal justice professionals. As a key member of our Operations Management Team, you’ll be responsible for managing, planning, and administrating the daily operational/maintenance functions of the Plant/Shredding Facilities in the most cost effective and customer focused manner. Specifically, this will involve: • Maintaining, monitoring, and repairing all machinery to ensure maximum efficiencies., • Managing a team of Shredding Specialists, • Ensuring overtime costs are minimised and associated labour costs within the plant department are managed appropriately., • Developing and implementing short and long-term plans for the plant department, while strategically implementing methods to achieve goals., • Ensuring Site Health and Safety standards are prioritised and maintained at all times., • Overseeing personnel training for all plant employees, including training on the operation of shredding equipment, baling, forklifts, and other types of equipment., • Ensuring the plant meets British Security Industry Association standards by following Shred-it policies at all times., • Controlling the flow of activity in the plant so team members / trucks can be provided service upon arrival., • Managing customer service in the plant, demanding a high level of customer service at all times., • Taking ownership of all compliance and safety training for the plant department and employees., • Recruiting, training, and developing talent.
