About The Project Due to continued growth in our Water sector, we are recruiting for an Apprentice Civil Engineer to join our Northumbrian Water Framework. Costain have won extensive work across the water sector this year to support the AMP 8 investment cycle. We have been appointed by Northumbrian Water to the Living Water Enterprise to help shape and deliver its strategic infrastructure upgrade programme with contracts valued up to c.£670m to Costain over 15 years. What does an Apprenticeship at Costain offer me? The level and training provider for your apprenticeship will depend on the skills you present at interview. The Early Careers team will register you with a suitable training provider who can support the delivery of your qualification. Being an apprentice means you will work both on-the-job with your project at site, and off-the-job with the provider. When taking on one of the many apprenticeships on offer by Costain, you will be supported by your project line manager and team, the Costain Early Careers Team, and the training provider of your academic qualification. The training provider may be a college, a university or even an independent training provider. You will be supported throughout your apprenticeship by your local team and line manager, and you will be given time to carry out your studies with the provider etc. Your on-the-job training will be in line with the work available on site but will afford the opportunity to ensure that you are given on site experience required to meet the technical and competency levels in order to achieve your apprenticeship goals. What will the programme involve? • A recognised qualification: Level Civil Engineering Technician (36 months + End Point Assessment), • Day or block release at college working towards your qualification, • A mentor to support you through your EngTech, • Attendance on apprentice development programme, • On-going support and reviews on your progress Responsibilities RESPONSIBILITIES • Assist with setting out, • Preparation of work plans and reports, • Assist with developing construction methods, • Assist with the preparation of briefings, • Site reporting and monitoring of site progress, • Site inspections and surveys, • Assist with monitoring and ensuring the works are carried out safely and to design requirements, • Demonstrate a personal commitment to safety, • Contribute to safety initiatives, • Promote and maintain a positive safety culture on the project Knowledge, Skills, And Experience • Have an enthusiasm for engineering and in continuing their educational journey through an apprenticeship. Under the new contract, Costain will work with Northumbrian Water and its key partners where the main scope of work will include design, construction and commissioning of new water and wastewater treatment assets, asset renewals/modifications, refurbishments, and extension to treatment works.

As a Graduate Planning Engineer, you will be responsible for providing planning support, working with the project team to develop and manage programmes of work. We expect some of our graduates to rotate after a period of 8-12 months, to another project/sector of the business to fully understand the depth and breadth of the services offered by the company. Our line managers are fully supportive of the Graduate Development Programme and will be involved in helping you along the way. JOB DESCRIPTION The role of Graduate Quantity Surveyor is to assist in administration and management of costs and contracts relating to projects. The role may involve all aspects of work from the initial tender to final account and close out, seeking to minimise the costs and enhance value for money whilst achieving the required standards and quality. This role will work under the close direction and supervision of a more senior quantity surveyor.
