Location: Onsite/hybrid Team ModelTeam Model: Embedded within a single cross functional software development podReports to: Senior Engineering ManagerDirect Reports: Software Engineers and QA/Automation EngineersThe RoleWe currently have a number of vacancies for the role of Engineering Manager.Lead an engineering team to deliver high-quality software predictably and sustainably. Provide day-to-day technical and people leadership, with direct visibility into individual performance, team health, and delivery flow. Champion modern engineering practices such as continuous delivery, test automation, observability, and improved development flow to drive sustainable change that strengthens quality, pace, and long-term engineering excellence.Key Responsibilities1) Team Leadership & HealthAccountable for ensuring the pod performs effectively and consistently delivers on its commitmentsSet clear goals, standards, and working agreements for the team; foster a culture of ownership, psychological safety, and continuous improvementAct as a visible role model for engineering excellence, demonstrating the standards, behaviours, and delivery discipline that define what “good” looks like across the teamEnsure effective core rituals (stand‑ups, planning, backlog refinement, demos, retros) to maintain tight delivery cadence and transparencyMonitor team capacity, flow efficiency, and impediments; actively remove blockers and escalate when necessary. Work proactively to ensure pod productivity is optimised by addressing issues and risks as they are identifiedCoach engineers on craft excellence (code quality, testing discipline, software performance, observability, security by design)2) People Management & PerformanceProvide regular 1:1s, feedback, career development plans, and growth opportunitiesOwn performance management end to end (objective setting, calibration, reviews, promotions. Where needed, put in place clear and supportive improvement steps to help individuals get back on trackHire and onboard engineers; build a diverse, inclusive teamMaintain direct line of sight into day to day contributions through embedded participation in delivery rituals, code reviews, incident postmortems, and technical discussions.3) Delivery & ExecutionOwn delivery commitments at the team level, ensuring alignment with roadmap and OKRsPartner with the stakeholders to provide accurate milestone updates and progress reporting to the stakeholdersCollaborate with stakeholders to identify and manage dependencies, risks, scope creep, unforeseen complexity, and escalations across teamsTrack and improve team flow metrics (lead time, deployment frequency, change failure rate, MTTR)Champion automation in CI/CD, test coverage, and release governance; reduce toil and bottlenecks4) Technical StewardshipCollaborate with Senior Engineer(s)/Architect(s) on system design, technical strategy, and debt retirementEncourage high standards in code review, documentation, security posture, and observabilityBalance short-term delivery with long-term maintainability; facilitate technical discovery spikes and design reviewsMaintain awareness of platform constraints, scalability, performance, and cost5) Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with stakeholders on prioritisation, scope, and trade-offs; align delivery to business outcomesCommunicate plans, risks, and status to stakeholders; provide clear, no surprises updatesEssential Skills and ExperienceProven experience leading software engineering teams as EM/SDM (typically 3–5+ years).Background as a senior engineer or equivalent; capable of technical guidance without being the primary coder.Experience with agile delivery at scale, production operations, and modern DevOps practices.Strong track record in hiring, performance management, and coaching.About DatalexDatalex is a market leader in airline e-commerce solutions.
