Job Description The work pattern for this post is 11:45 - 13:45 per day, Monday to Friday. The Post Reporting to Cleaning Supervisors, the role holder will be part of the front line, operational cleaning team and is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment across the campus footprint, and for providing leadership and direction to the cleaning staff. This includes monitoring performance of staff, ensuring required high standards are achieved and maintained and providing progress reports to Cleaning Supervisors. In the summer months, accommodation is commercially available and is a busy period of continuous guest turnover and space preparation. The Post Estates & Commercial Services, Property Management Division is seeking to fill the position of ‘Maintenance Technician: Semi-skilled`. This role sits within the Operations and Maintenance team who have responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of the University Estate, including building fabric, electrical and mechanical building services and hard landscaping such as roads and footpaths. The Maintenance Technician: Semi-skilled will play a key role within the Operations and Maintenance team, working in a fast paced and dynamic environment that goes with a broad customer base, round the year business and a large estate. The maintenance team’s remit is broad and varied undertaking planned preventative and reactive maintenance across the University estate on and off campus. This includes attending to over 17,000 requests for work from students and staff each year. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisors, the role holder will assist in undertaking all types of activity of maintenance on building fabric and services including responding to reactive repairs. The Maintenance technicians: Semi-Skilled are responsible for delivering a responsive and efficient service to all customers of the Property Management Division. The in-house maintenance team is supplemented by external term and service contractors as required. Contractors are also employed to undertake specific pieces of large scale maintenance work and projects. Description of Duties Operational • Provide planned and reactive cleaning services to defined service level standards to ensure a common standard is maintained within your designated area, • Cleaning services include cleaning of all accessible surfaces, comprising furniture, fixtures and fittings, various floor types, carpets, sanitary ware, toilet and shower facilities (including unblocking drains as necessary), kitchens (including appliances), • Ensure safe working practices are maintained in the workplace, particularly ensuring compliance with all instructions relating to the use and storage of chemicals, materials and equipment provided for the role, • Undertake legislative compliance through regular sanitising in relation to Legionella treatment and to report when such works are completed, • Carry out a full deep clean of all areas at the end of teaching/occupancy periods, as directed by the Supervisor, • Undertake room preparation in relation to bookings, including but not limited to making beds, literature distribution and hospitality provision set up., • Attend and participate in relevant training and development to ensure that operational and safety standards are maintained at all times, • Support internal and external emergency cleaning, ensuring that body fluid and other emergency spillages and graffiti removal is dealt with in accordance with agreed procedures, • Empty waste and recycling receptacles in line with building specification and actual usage, transferring waste to designated disposal points Customer Service • Provide excellence in all areas of customer service, • Welcome and respond effectively and efficiently to any enquiries from students, staff or visitors, • Participate in key University events e.g., graduation, student arrivals, Open Days, providing friendly, customer focused, proactive cleaning support Health and Safety • Ensure all work carried out complies with relevant risk assessments, safety legislation, University safety policies and procedures and all applicable regulations, Approved Code of Practices and good practice guidelines, • Ensure manual handling practices are observed at all times, • Complete and assist with compliance checks as required Essential Criteria Knowledge and Experience • Experience of cleaning duties, • Knowledge of safe working practices and COSHH requirements, • Knowledge of Health and Safety in a cleaning environment, • Ability to perform repetitive tasks, including lifting and bending Skills & Attributes • Actively seeks to develop self, • Evidence of being self-motivated with a “can do” style and approach, • The ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of campus users, • The ability to follow instructions and prioritise and complete tasks efficiently, • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently Desirable Criteria Knowledge and Experience • Knowledge of working in a University environment, • Experience of working with students, • Computer literate Additional Information 2 x Part time - 35% FTE (12.5 hours per week) working 0600-0830am primarily, 5 days over 7. 1 x Part time- 49% FTE (17.5 hours per week) working between the hours of 0600-1600, 5 days over 7.
